"New Soviet luxury": a menu for the New Year in the style of the first years of this holiday (late 30s)

Let's continue the theme of themed New Year's tables?

We have already remembered the times of the tsar-father and the NEP, but now - let's imagine what could have been on the first "legal" New Year's table.

Why do I call it "the first legal"? Everything is simple here.

In 1929, the celebration of Christmas, which, in fact, replaced the earlier celebration of the New Year, was done away with as a priestly relic. And for a very long time - right up to 1935 there were no such winter holidays in the country.

However, the people needed the holidays.

And in December 1935 (namely, on the 28th) in the newspaper in the newspaper "Pravda" there was an appeal by a certain Pavel Postyshev, who offered to "return the trees to the children." If anyone remembers, such publications - they were a kind of stage of "preparation of public opinion." It is not for nothing that the phrase “raising prices at the request of workers” has gone down in history (letters with requests from workers also appeared in the newspaper Pravda).

That time it was not the prices that were raised, but, two days later, the Christmas tree markets were opened - the Christmas trees were returned to the children!

And this, perhaps, was the moment of the formation of the culture of celebrating the New Year, which for decades became the main holiday in the country.

So what do you need if you suddenly decide to make the table "luxurious Soviet"?

You don't have to go far for the answer.

Products that appeared thanks to the activities of the People's Commissar of the Food Industry Anastas Mikoyan.

They were a symbol of the achievements of the revolution - a symbol of the fact that food became available to ordinary people, previously intended only for much more affluent segments of society.

And in the first place, of course, "Soviet Champagne". It appeared in 1937 and was a source of pride.

If you make cold cuts - then there must also be "Doctor's" sausage, but probably everyone knows about this.

But with the choice of salad, you should be careful. For "Olivier" is not a proletarian salad (even if it is with peas and mayonnaise), and "Stolichniy" in the thirties is not existed (they say it appeared in 1939, but this is more of a small legend of a later time, or maybe it is true, but now do not recognize).

At least in the first edition of the "Book about tasty and healthy food" they did not hear about "Stolichny", they did not look saw, and she was preparing for the exit just in 1938, came out, but 39 (I could be mistaken, if so, then correct).

But there was a wonderful recipe for a very similar salad - game salad. The new cheeses on the screen were not picked on purpose, however, they can also be put on the table in the style of "real Soviet New Year"

And also canned food! Not home, but industrial - do not forget. Lay out the crabs (just lay out). All kinds of marinades. Canned fruits. By this time, Soviet industry had started mass production, and canned food was a sign of abundance. And mayonnaise should not be homemade, but a real Soviet "Provencal" - at the end of the thirties, this is a novelty that did not become boring to citizens.
