Herring is considered the most popular national Danish food. Every year, residents consume about 500 tons of this fish. Basically, herring is pickled, smoked or fried fillets. Pickled herring is a very simple traditional dish. In Denmark, they are sure that there is nothing tastier than marinated fish with sweet onion rings. And what could be more beautiful than a pine cut on which fish is served? Definitely, the dish is worth every tourist in the country trying it, and better - with a glass of fragrant wheat beer.
Ingredients: Herring, Salt, Sugar, Wine vinegar, Peppercorns, Coriander, Allspice, Cardamom, Bay leaf, Chili pepper (1 tsp. l. ground) optional, Cinnamon (0.5 tsp. l. ground), Ginger root, Bulb onion, Apple, Water
Cooking method:
Prepare all the necessary ingredients.
We cut the herring into fillets without skin and bones. Can be cut as desired.
We put all the spices in a dry frying pan, heat until their aroma intensifies, about 5-7 minutes.
Boil water. Add salt, sugar and all spices. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes. Then add apple and onion. Boil again, pour in the vinegar. Remove the marinade from heat and set aside.
Put the herring in a container, pour the marinade so that the fish is completely covered. Let the herring brew for at least three days.
