It only takes 2 ingredients and a little time to make an expensive vanilla extract on your own. Here's how to save money on baking products.
The more I cook, the more I notice that some foods are much cheaper to make myself than to buy in the store. It will be time consuming, but you will save money.
And the time for cooking the products, which I will tell you about today, you need very little.
1. Powdered sugar
Many will laugh, but not everyone knows that making icing sugar yourself is easy. I punch the sugar in a coffee grinder for 1-2 minutes - and the powdered sugar is ready. But there is a nuance.
Before pouring the icing sugar into a storage jar, I sift it through a sieve. This will surely get rid of the sugar crystals that have not been ground.
2. Chocolate shavings
Chocolate chips in stores are unreasonably expensive, although it is not difficult to prepare them yourself. My favorite way is to take a good chocolate bar and use a vegetable peeler to cut the petals into the desired size. For small chips, you need cold chocolate, for large ones, heat the plate for 10 seconds in the microwave.
3. Vanilla extract
This is the most expensive product in today's selection. And although it will be cheaper to cook it yourself, it will still cost a lot. To prepare the extract, 1 pod of vanilla pour 30 ml of 40 ° alcohol (best with rum, but you can also use vodka) and leave it for 1 month.
4. Flavored sugar
Sugar lends itself well to flavoring. I pour the sugar into a jar and add a vanilla pod (this can be a pod that you have already used, for example, to flavor the custard) and leave it for a few days.
In addition to the vanilla pod, you can also make sugar with citrus zest.
5. Chocolate paste
I used to buy pasta from the store. But then I cooked it myself and realized that it was not difficult and much cheaper. The cooking process is as simple as possible. I punch all the ingredients in a blender until smooth and pour in the milk mixture. I have already posted a detailed recipe on the blog.
