The sick vegans? Can I get cancer from vegetable diet? Studies show that? Is it bad to be a vegetarian? We will understand more.

A vegetarian diet is characterized by abstinence from the use of any animal products, including consumption of meat, eggs and dairy food.

Most studies show that a vegetarian diet reduces the risk of cancer in general, but there is little evidence to prove the effect of this way of life for specific cancers disease.

Despite the limited number of studies investigating the effect of a vegetarian diet on the risk of cancer, generalized analysis of data from 2017, it was found that such a diet reduces the risk of cancer in general, 15%.

Because according to a study from Oxford University, which included 2246 vegans, the risk of developing any cancer have been lower by 19% compared to the omnivorous humans.

But this result was no longer significant after adjustment for these body mass index.

In other words, people who are overweight lose the advantage, in spite of a vegetarian lifestyle.

In another study, data were obtained that benefit from a vegetarian diet in reducing the risk of getting cancer, have more than males than females.

At the same time, in these studies, which lasted from 4 to 8 years old, were not received evidence of the positive impact of vegetarian diet on the risk of specific types of cancer, such as colorectal cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer or cancer of the urinary tract system.

However, the incidence of prostate cancer was significantly reduced (by 35%) in group vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians.

Thus, vegetarian diet may lower the risk of cancer as a whole, but the data are inconclusive with respect to specific types of cancer.

There is no evidence as to whether such a diet is an effective means of prevention for a high-risk people.

The main limitation of research trying to find out, is the small sample size vegans and a large number of cancers in the population.

On the other hand there is no evidence of harm from a vegetarian diet, so it can be used as an option for a healthy diet.

In the case of vegetarianism for therapeutic or prophylactic purposes should consult with your doctor and dietitian.
