Dried fruits compote is a delicious and very traditional drink that we all know how to brew. I want to tell you about the compote recipe, which is very simple, but will give new notes of taste.
Ingredients:
- 3 handfuls of dried apples - 150 g
- 1 handful of dried apricots - 80 g
- 1 handful of prunes - 80 g
- 1 handful of cranberries - 45 g
- 3 small dried pears - 100 g
- a little clove
- small stick of cinnamon (or powder)
- 3 liters of water
- 1 orange - skip
- half a lemon - you can skip
If you do not like some compote ingredient, or it is simply not at home, then do not worry. In the recipe, I will constantly suggest fruit options or write which components of the compote can be skipped.
Compote with dried fruits recipe
Prepare all dried fruits. The main thing in compote are slices of dried apples.
I buy dried apricots. Dried apricots differ from apricots in that in the first case, the apricots are removed from the tree, the pit is taken out, washed with cold water and dried in the sun or in the oven. Apricot is the same apricot only dried on a branch under the natural influence of sunlight.
I use cold unfiltered tap water to rinse all fruits (no need to filter the water). I wash the dried fruits with cold water immediately in a saucepan in which I will cook the compote. I pour water, let it stand for a while, and pour it into the sink, and so on 2-3 times.
I pour three liters of water into a saucepan. cover with a lid. And put it aside for 12 hours (it is better to cook dried fruits in the evening and leave them to soak overnight).
After soaking, the fruit will absorb a lot of water. Into a pot with future compote (no more water!) add a little clove and a small and small cinnamon stick.
If small children drink the compote, then add only a few pieces of cloves. If you do not have cinnamon sticks, but only powdered cinnamon, then do not add cinnamon at this stage of the compote preparation. A teaspoon of ground cinnamon can be added at the end of cooking.
Cover the pot and bring to a boil, then reduce the burner power to minimum. Cook the compote for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes of cooking the compote, you can add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the pan (if not previously added, a small cinnamon stick). Pour in also freshly squeezed juice of one orange and half of a large lemon.
Citrus juice is optional, but I recommend trying. You will understand how much the taste of compote with lemon and orange juice will change. I strongly discourage the use of juice in bags from the store, only freshly squeezed juice !!!
Stir the compote lightly and simmer for another 10 minutes. If you like very sweet compotes, then you can add sugar.

Dried fruits from cooked compote are recommended to drain, cool and serve. Fruit is super tasty. First of all, as a rule, apricots, plums and cranberries fly away :)
