Sweet croutons that are pre-soaked in a mixture of milk and eggs and then quickly fried is a simple dish that is perfect for everyday breakfast and for Sunday brunch. It seems that everything is simple, but if you sprinkle ready-made croutons with powdered sugar and add fresh berries, then this is not just a quick breakfast, but a presentable dessert.
Ingredients:
Baton - 1 pc.
Chicken egg - 2 pcs.
Milk - 1 glass
Sugar - 2 tablespoons
Cinnamon (ground) - ΒΌ tsp
Vegetable oil - 3 tbsp.
Powdered sugar - for serving
Fresh raspberries - for serving
Step by step recipe:
1. Prepare food. It is better if the loaf is yesterday's or even the day before yesterday, and it is very convenient if it is already in the form of slicing. Sugar and cinnamon can be added more or less - to taste.
2. Prepare a sweet milk and egg mixture to soak the loaf. For this, it is more convenient to take a dish with a wide bottom. Crack eggs, add sugar and cinnamon. Whisk everything with a fork or whisk until smooth.
3. Then add milk and whisk everything again. Everything is ready to start frying the croutons. Preheat a skillet, drip a little vegetable oil and spread it over the bottom.
4. Dip a piece of loaf into the milk-egg mixture.
5. Hold the bread in it for half a minute so that it is soaked in the mixture, but not soaked.
6. Let the excess liquid drain back into the platter, then place the prepared loaf in a well-heated skillet.
Fry the croutons on both sides over medium heat until golden brown. The crust forms very quickly, because the mixture contains sugar, so a strong fire is not needed.
7. Prepare all the croutons this way.
8. Serve hot or allow to cool slightly.
9. And to turn croutons into a dessert, just mix a little powdered sugar with ground cinnamon and sprinkle with this mixture on top, and then decorate them with a small amount of fresh berries.
10. Hearty and high-calorie, sweet and, perhaps, not entirely healthy from the point of view of proper nutrition, early or late, but in any case, such a delicious breakfast is ready!
You can experiment with tastes by adding vanillin instead of cinnamon, and when serving instead of berries - honey. These croutons are delicious with both a cup of tea and a glass of fresh milk.
