Macaroni and cheese is a simple dish, no frills and frills, with a minimum set of ingredients, but still very tasty. I remember the menu from the kindergarten, where boiled pasta just sprinkled with cheese, and it already seemed like a delicacy!

Ingredients:

Pasta (durum wheat) - 200 g

Semi-hard cheese (creamy, gouda) - 150 g

Butter - 1 tbsp.

Salt to taste

Ground black pepper - to taste

Water - for cooking pasta

Prepare your ingredients. It is better to take not the largest pasta for this dish - horns, whites, butterflies, shells, spirals are perfect.

For cheese, give preference to semi-hard varieties that melt well in the oven. And to make the taste of the finished dish more intense, take 2-3 types, for example: edam, gouda, creamy or Russian.

Turn on the oven to warm up to a temperature of 180-190 degrees.

Put a saucepan with enough water on a high heat, let it boil. Until then, grate the cheeses and add some black pepper for flavor. Mix everything.

As soon as the water in the pan has boiled, add salt and add pasta, stir. Let it simmer again, then reduce heat and simmer the pasta on a low simmer for the minutes indicated on the package. Usually, depending on the type of pasta, the cooking time takes 6-10 minutes. Stir while cooking.

Place the finished pasta on a sieve and let the water drain. Then transfer them to a deep bowl, add half of the grated cheese and stir quickly to distribute it evenly.

Grease a baking dish generously with butter and add the pasta mixed with cheese. Spread the mass evenly over the entire container.

Sprinkle with the second half of the grated cheese on top.

Bake mac and cheese in the preheated oven. How long will it take to bake the dish? It all depends on your oven, type of cheese, and personal preference. The cheese shavings should melt and lightly brown. The rougher the crust, the more crisp it will be. The approximate baking time is 15-20 minutes.

Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Garnish the macaroni and cheese casserole with fresh herbs before serving and serve immediately.

Baked macaroni and cheese can be a side dish for meat or play the role of an independent dish, to which it is enough to add some light salad.
