There is an opinion that food is stored better at low temperatures, for a longer period. Therefore, many housewives send everything they can to the refrigerator. Undoubtedly, in most cases this approach is correct, but for some products, storage in the refrigerator can lead to spoilage.

Some quickly begin to rot, mold forms on them, taste and benefits are lost. Therefore, you need to know which of the products should definitely not be stored in the refrigerator.

Bread

It has been proven: at temperatures below + 2 ° C, bakery products lose their freshness 3 times faster than when stored in room conditions.

This is very simple to explain: the process of moisture evaporation takes place, due to which the product almost instantly stale and dries. Bread is best stored at room temperature and preferably in a bread bin.

And to protect against mold, just place a small container of salt.

If it becomes necessary to preserve the product for a longer period, you should wrap the bread in a bag and put it in the freezer. Shelf life - up to six months. It will be enough to heat the bread in the oven or microwave oven, but after you take it out of the freezer, it will become stale within 1-2.

Tropical fruits, as well as apples, pears

It is important to remember that almost all tropical fruits cannot stand cold temperatures. If you store them in the refrigerator, they will rot as quickly as possible, and toxic gases will be released.

Bananas, lemons, and other fruits should be kept at room temperature. And to extend the life of the fruit, wrap it in paper. Thanks to this, they will "breathe". Putting in a bag is not worth it - because of this, they will rot faster.

But with apples and pears, there is a slightly different problem. So, they contain ethylene - a gas that helps to ripen not only them, but also other fruits stored nearby.

Some housewives use this property of apples to speed up the ripening of tomatoes or oranges. To do this, you just need to cut the apple and place it near other fruits.

In any other case, do not store them in the refrigerator, especially with other foods.

Fresh vegetables

Many will be surprised, but this is so - most of the vegetables are better and longer to be stored in the cellar, in any other cool, but well-ventilated place. For example, the starch in potatoes starts to transform into sugar at temperatures below +7 ºС. As a result, both taste and consistency of the product change.

Do not store radishes, carrots, beets in the refrigerator. As a result of the lowered temperature, mold appears on their surface, root crops begin to germinate.

Also, do not store tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables with a high water content. They will quickly begin to mold and rot.

As a warning, put them in a small basket and store at room temperature.

Garlic and onion

Garlic and onions should not be kept in the refrigerator either. The main disadvantage is the lack of air, which is needed to store food. As a result, their structure begins to deform, onions with garlic become soft, all their useful properties disappear.
