Have you bought a banana and noticed such a “mark” on it? Throw it away urgently! What's so dangerous about it? One such fruit is potentially dangerous and can send you to a hospital bed for a long time.
What is the danger?
The first recorded case was in 2013. It all started innocently enough: a 29-year-old girl from the UK bought a couple of bananas in the store, one of them had white fluffy spots, but she attributed it to mold on the skin.
Arriving home, she peeled a banana and noticed the incredible - hundreds of small spiders, which were on the table, on the floor - just everywhere. It was a real nightmare. But she reacted quickly: she took the bananas back to the store and called in the disinfectants.
Experts, having studied the spiders, came to the conclusion that these are Brazilian wandering spiders. They are considered the most poisonous in the world - their poison is 20 times stronger than the toxin of rattlesnakes. Apparently, when sorting, they hid in bananas and successfully arrived in the UK.
But this is not the only case. A year later, history repeated itself - a girl from England bought a bunch of bananas and put them by the window. A couple of days later, she witnessed a real disaster - thousands of small spiders began to appear from white spots. She also had to call specialists and leave the apartment for three days while the disinfectants cleaned up.
History repeated itself not so long ago - in May 2017. A 30-year-old Englishwoman suffered a similar nightmare buying bananas. When she came home, she was going to eat it, but thousands of small spiders ran down her arms from the white "bag" on the peel. The result is the same - Brazilian wandering spiders and three days outside the home.
But bananas are not the most dangerous fruit. So, in July last year, a family from Connecticut, USA, bought grapes. When they had already eaten more than half, they noticed a small spider in the package. It turned out to be a dangerous black widow. It's good that none of them were hurt.
But according to experts, the presence of insects in fruits is good.
As this indicates that there were practically no pesticides or other chemicals used in their cultivation, which kill spiders and other insects. Nevertheless, there are few people who want to bite off a banana, and pick up a mouthful of small Brazilian spiders.
How to choose the right fruit?
When choosing bananas, take a close look at the store. If you notice fluffy white spots on the peel, do not put fruit in your basket, or better yet, warn staff about the danger.
Overall, choosing the best bananas depends a lot on when you consume them. For example, green ones ripen more slowly, which means they can be left to ripen for several days, but yellow and ripe bananas turn brown rather quickly.
Other tips:
- Apples. When buying them, you don't have to worry about spiders - there are no reported cases. But if you take rotten or moldy fruit, you can get sick. Do not take apples with holes in the peel - this is a sign of rot or insects. Good apples are firm, with a pleasant smell and color.
- Pears. Here, too, a lot depends on when you use them. If you want ripe fruit, press down on the top with your finger - if it is soft, this is what you need. But it is important to remember that ripe fruits deteriorate quickly, so they should be eaten as soon as possible. But if other parts of the pears turned out to be soft, it is better to put such a fruit aside.
- Grapes. The best indicator of maturity is the color of the berries. The berries of sweet green grapes should be yellow-green, but when choosing dark grapes, try to buy the one with the darkest color.
- Oranges. The main thing is to choose citrus fruits that are not too soft, without signs of damage and mold.
As you can see, even a simple bunch of bananas can be deadly. Therefore, it is so important to choose fruits wisely.
