White wine is becoming more and more popular with consumers in Russia. If back in 2010 the percentage of consumption of white and red wine was 40% to 60%, now everything is equal.
At the same time, dry white wines are usually chosen not only by women, but also by men, and all thanks to the huge variety of styles, tastes and aroma: there are light, fresh, fruity ladies' options, and serious gastronomic drinks for men, which are aged in oak barrels. We have collected advice from experts from Roskachestvo, who recently completed an audit of Russian wine-making farms.
Choice of packaging
It is best to buy wine in glass bottles, since wine drink is usually sold in bags.
But even if wine is poured there, it will be the most budgetary drink, for the production of which the pressed fraction of grape must is used.
And this option is considered not the best for the production of white wine directly, since the pressure harms the delicate structure of the grapes.
"Registration" of wine
The region of origin of the wine must also be considered. If you want to try Russian drinks, take the ones that say PGI. This means that the product is made from a grape variety grown in a specific geographic area. In other words, this is where the crop was harvested.
For example, if “PGI Kuban” is indicated, this indicates that the berries were grown and harvested in the Krasnodar Territory. Without this specific phrase, the presence on the bottle of the mention of "Crimean" or "Kubinskoye" is just the words of the producers, that is, grapes for its production could be harvested anywhere.
Is it the right choice for the price?
It should be said right away that price is not the most important indicator.
As the deputy of Roskachestvo Ilya Loevsky noted, there is no need to put an equal sign between “expensive” and “high quality”. So, experts at the beginning of this year conducted research directly on Russian wines.
And some, costing from 1000 rubles, came out worse in quality than cheaper competitors.
In addition, those drinks that cost from 350 rubles per bottle deserved good marks. The main thing is not to buy wines that cost less than 250 rubles - you can hardly find high-quality among the products presented.
Recommendations for choosing a variety
The most common grape varieties for the production of white wines are Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay. Despite the fact that they belong to the international category, they are also common in Russia.
Experts noted that in the category of wines from 500 rubles. it is better to choose drinks that are made from two or three grape varieties.
Due to this, the aroma and taste of the drink will be more pronounced. However, you should not pay attention only to international varieties, because in Russia they grow their own. The most suitable for the production of delicious wine are white or Siberian kokur.
Does age matter?
When choosing a wine, we often focus on this very moment. However, many inexpensive Russian wines are produced with the assumption that the container will be open in the first year after purchase.
The same is true for cheap white wines, which cost up to 500 rubles. They can be called more fragile than red wine - such drinks are less resistant to temperature fluctuations, long-term transportation.
Dry semi-sweet or semi-dry - what to choose?
People who love wine for its taste most often choose dry wines. But on the market you can find quite high-quality options for semi-sweet and semi-dry wines from Russian grapes.
The main thing is that the packaging should bear the PGI category, since the sweetness of such a wine is achieved through the use of certain grape varieties, and not various additives.
