I have long wanted to switch to a healthy diet, but all my attempts were in vain. Every time I gave up my usual food, I felt bad... I was a “regular” of thematic forums, where I asked people the same question: “How do you manage to give up wheat flour, sweets and meat products and not go crazy?”
I remember somehow eliminating white sugar and processed foods from my menu, and instead of meat I ate vegetables and greens. All day there was a barely perceptible weakness, but I was sure that I would wake up the next day refreshed, replenished strength and energy.
But what did I feel in the end? The next morning there was dizziness, fatigue, slight apathy. That is, I felt worse than before I gave up any "harm"! I already had the impression that my body absolutely requires meat and sugar in order for my body to function properly.
It was a delusion!
The events described took place several months ago, and I do not even remember exactly at what moment all these painful sensations passed.
I began to feel like a "lively", as it should have been initially. The feeling of weakness disappeared somewhere. I wanted to eliminate harmful foods from my diet, and so I decided to cleanse my body.
What was it?
This discomfort after giving up sweets and animal products was caused by the detoxification process. I didn’t realize this right away, and therefore for a long time there was a risk of breaking loose and returning to my old way of life. The body had to get rid of the toxins accumulated in the tissues. They came from processed foods, especially animal foods. It was not possible to remove them immediately, because they accumulated in the body for years.
Therefore, I felt weak, because I was trying to get rid of all this "ballast". Mother Nature is in any case kind to us, and therefore helps sooner or later return to her natural state. Despite decades of systematic body poisoning, our body is able to cope with the task of self-cleaning. Still, you shouldn't expect cleansing and adaptation to a healthy diet to occur in one day or a week.
It took me about 4 weeks.
Why not give up if you are determined to switch to proper nutrition? Because sooner or later, poor health, “withdrawal”, when the body asks for the next portion of harmfulness, will surely pass. It can be difficult at first. In the first weeks I had the impression that I was absolutely not strong enough for anything.
In the case of sweets, every time I consumed them, I felt sleepy and a feeling of drunkenness. I am not kidding! Without sweets, I felt weak, with sweets, there was a change in mood when I experienced unwarranted irritability. For this reason, I had the added motivation to throw sugar in tandem with processed food.
After a while, I noticed that I no longer feel bad, even if I don't eat sweets. As a bonus, the complexion has improved, it even began to look somehow younger. Plus, I have more energy!
In fact, I perceived these changes that were happening to me as a cure for the disease, and I accepted the fact that for some time I will have to feel bad in order to then feel better.
Besides, my work paid off, because now I not only feel great. I became the owner of a slim figure.
My body no longer struggles every day with excess toxins, chemicals and animal protein. By the way, after I gave up meat, my weight began to go away faster. During the first 2 weeks, I was able to lose about 7 kg. In the next 2 weeks, it took about 5 more.
In addition to feeling unwell, there were two other signs of adaptation to the new diet. One of them was itching, rather strange. It felt like itching as if not only the skin, but also the body from the inside. This sensation disappeared after about a couple of weeks.
Another symptom was that I was hungry all the time. Now all this is left behind. Eating meat, sweets, white flour products, I always had to keep track of the numbers on the scales. I could not deny myself the “sweets”, and then I was tormented by the thought of whether they would be deposited at the waist in the form of ugly folds.
Now I eat whatever I want, and I don't have to keep track of the readings on the scales! When the body switched to extracting what it really needed from truly valuable food (without sugar or white flour clogging), my appetite returned to normal, and I didn't feel hungry. But to make it clear - I do not eat useless food.
The day I decided to give up sugar, I went to the store to get xylitol. I felt as if the xylitol coffee was “scratching” my throat - as if it were protesting against a bitter drink.
After a week of suffering, I noticed that the discomfort had stopped.
By the way, I use honey or organic palm sugar to make sweets, and unrefined cane sugar for jam.
The main task is meat!
The meat... This was my biggest problem because it tasted so good to me... I was in awe of the uncooked steaks and minced red meat with onions. Now I hardly eat all of this. Almost, because I have to visit people who do not understand a little about my attitude to this product, and for the sake of appearance I can eat a couple of pieces, but no more.
I do not feel any craving for meat and offal, I do not even remember about them. And for sure, my own reflection in the mirror brings me much more pleasure. After all, not so long ago I was terribly full and experienced a lot of complexes. Until I gave up meat, I could not lose weight normally. Before that, the weight went away, but much more slowly. Even giving up sweets did not give such an effect!
I got an incentive to take better care of myself, to buy fashionable and beautiful clothes. Self-confidence appeared. And, as expected, there were fans, because men are attracted by the energy of a self-confident woman, and this has become more than enough for me. That is, do you understand how many bonuses the transition to a healthy diet can bring at the same time? :)
I am currently consuming plant-based protein, for example, adding lentils to soup. Indeed, thanks to beans, chickpeas or lentils, I am not attracted to meat.
Good proof of the effects of excess meat is for me the morning after grilling evening. My eyes are swollen, morning fatigue, the impression that only coffee will put me on my feet. Now I drink a glass of water with lemon in the morning and eat a healthy light meal about 30 minutes after that, but only if I feel hungry.
I have completely eliminated white flour, white salt and white rice, and refined oil. I also changed the usual salt to sea and Himalayan. I buy them for a change. I believe that it is completely harmful to give up salt, but I use it in miniscule amounts. According to reviews from my guests, I always don't salt enough food.
I buy cold-pressed and unrefined oils such as linseed, rapeseed, coconut oil. They are sold in organic food stores. I use so little oil that the cost does not scare me. The fat for the absorption of vitamins (added to meals) is flaxseed, nuts, seeds and avocados.
The pasta in my house is only whole grains, and the rice is only brown. I'm used to wholemeal pancakes. White rice is generally not tasty for me now.
I do not eat white bread from the store, but somehow during the trip I had to eat whole grain bread, and the next morning I felt a weight. But this does not mean that I do not eat bread at all. My roommate bakes sourdough rye bread, which is delicious and nutritious - two slices are enough to feel full for 3 hours. Once a week I buy such bread from her.
So, in a nutshell, then:
- I ruled out: white flour, white sugar, semi-finished products;
- I replaced: white salt for Himalayan and sea salt, refined oils for unrefined, refined flour for whole grains;
- I cut in volumes: products of animal origin, that is, meat and dairy products;
- I increased in the menu: percentage of vegetables and fruits, nuts and seeds.
Health to you!
