In pursuit of profit, many manufacturers use far from the most honest methods of drawing attention to their product: bright labels, unusual names, and much more increase the cost. But this does not mean that they are useful for us. It is important to learn to distinguish between such "machinations" so as not to overpay for a product that is actually much cheaper.
Durum wheat
Often on the packaging with pasta you can see the inscription "From durum wheat", and the nonsense below are the letters: A, B, C, etc., which few people pay attention to. But paying attention to them and understanding the meaning is very important.
The fact is that real pasta made from durum wheat must be marked with the letter "A".
If something else is written, you can safely put the packaging with the product back, because:
- B means that soft wheat flour was used in the production process.
- B indicates that the manufacturer used bakery wheat flour to create the product.
And if the manufacturer nevertheless wrote that the product is made from durum wheat, but the labeling is different, this speaks of deception.
Does not contain preservatives, dyes, etc.
Food additives are widely used today in food production. They are necessary for many reasons: to extend the shelf life, to add flavor, to preserve color and consistency, etc. Moreover, without additives, many of today's products are simply impossible. produce.
For example, even if you find yogurt on store shelves that says “No thickeners”, you shouldn't believe it. The manufacturer simply "hid" them under the letter E.
For an adult and healthy person, such additives are not dangerous. But it is important to remember that many manufacturers, trying to save money and at the same time make more money, use them in too many quantities simply to improve the taste of not the best products.
To reduce the amount of such food in your diet, try not to buy foods that can be stored for years.
Instead of a product name - brand name
On store shelves, you can see products with the name of the company and that's it. But it is important to remember that it is enshrined at the legislative level that if the product is natural (made on based on natural ingredients), it must be indicated on the packaging name. Otherwise, this may indicate the use of vegetable fats or other not very useful substances.
A simple example is "curd product". It is important to understand that this is far from cottage cheese and most likely it will not be included in its composition at all. In this case, it is advisable to study the composition for its real components.
This also applies to other products. For example, a chocolate bar should say “Chocolate”. If this is not the case, then it is most likely made from low-quality ingredients, and even with a lot of additives.
"Contains vitamins" or "Cholesterol-free" in sunflower oil
Now an inscription stating that the product does not contain cholesterol is being written wherever possible. In stores you can find a huge amount of vegetable oil, which contains no cholesterol, but a lot of vitamins. In fact, this is true, because it contains both vitamins and no cholesterol. But for products that say this, the price is much higher.
But there are products and oils that are richer in nutrients - definitely not a record holder.
You also need to be careful when choosing butter, especially if the packaging indicates that it is cholesterol free. It is important to remember: this suggests that this is not real butter, but a spread or margarine. They not only contain no milk fat, but also contain a large number of dangerous additives.
But they are also high in calories, and cheap foods contain trans fats.
Lactobacillus in kefir, yogurt
Today, lactobacilli have become very popular. And products with them in the composition are much more expensive. In almost all milk, the manufacturer indicates that they contain "Healthy lactobacilli".
But it is important to understand that these substances are present in almost all dairy products, even the cheapest. And when you buy the more expensive ones, you just pay for the packaging.
With yoghurts, it's a little different. Most of them are sterilized and lacto- and bifidobacteria are added there already during the production process. But there are not many of them. And for people who have problems with the gastrointestinal tract, they are unlikely to help restore the microflora.
Soft and affectionate words on baby puree
When choosing baby puree, be sure to carefully study whether it is suitable for the child. Do not believe such names as "Baby", "Sissy" and others. It must be indicated that this product is exactly suitable for children and it is desirable that the age be indicated.
It is important to remember that there are many unscrupulous manufacturers who do not want to comply with all GOSTs and regulations, but at the same time want to earn money. And therefore, hoping for inattentive buyers, they decorate their products with bright labels.
