Some of the meetings in our life are completely not accidental. Fate brought us together with Nastya quite unexpectedly on the expanses of Instagram. There we were surprised to find that we live in the same small German town and bring up children of the same age. Once, at mom's gatherings with coffee, Nastya shared her secret dream of opening a homemade pastry shop.

For the last 3 years, similar thoughts tormented me too. Baking cakes, biscuits, pastries was my secret passion.

First samples

Starting together is not scary at all. Having studied the German laws, according to which in order to produce something, one must be an individual entrepreneur, we decided the first time to advertise your products on the Etsy website and at the same time create accounts in popular social networks.

At that moment, none of us thought about profit - we worked on pure inspiration. Each of us had molds, molds, molds and other devices, and recipes were found on the Internet, in thematic groups and at unique master classes.

At first we baked some cakes for our own people, but rumors quickly spread and people gradually began to find our numbers and call.

A special kind of pride

Needless to say, none of us had a specialized education and we learned from our own mistakes and from videos from Youtube. I was surprised by this unexpected success - the line for crooked cakes with crooked drips of icing and simple cupcakes was almost the same as in the pastry shops in our city.

It was later that I found out that most German women are not too eager to bake, and putting a “homemade” cake on the table rather than a store cake is a special kind of pride. In addition, despite the abundance of paints, mastic, marzipan and other confectionery gizmos on the most ordinary shelves, specialized stores, it is almost impossible to find a really beautiful cake, for example, with mastic figures.

Well, the single pieces of art we found on Etsy and Odnoklassniki were produced by our compatriots in ordinary home kitchens.

Not to say that we turned over millions - there was only enough money to buy ingredients, but the opportunity to do what we love on maternity leave is priceless. Perhaps it was thanks to this unexpected hobby, which consumed us for almost a year, that it was not the first time in many years that I did not suffer from parental burnout and felt the buzz of life.

Christmas

Christmas gingerbread turned out to be successful - the same lumpy, but fragrant and tasty, according to a recipe spied in one culinary Instagram account. Despite the fact that on Christmas Eve the shelves of German stores and shops are usually overflowing with this kind of products, calls came in unexpectedly often and demand exceeded supply.

Closer to the new year, we began to notice that we were running out of steam: the children demanded a lot of attention and energy, we had to bake at night. Lack of sleep could not but affect productivity and quality of life. Plus, windfall profits could have caught the attention of financial inspectors. Reluctantly, after six months of active work, we closed our shop and returned to normal life.

Instead of a conclusion

Sometimes I think that if we had continued then - today, almost 3 years later, we would already have had a small but stable income. However, this experience has given us both a lot and has had an impact on our lives. Now I am not afraid to embark on such adventures, no matter how terrible they may seem, I distinguish dacquoise from the mona and I know that I have a person who can be trusted 100%. For example, entrust a cake for your Baby-shower. Well, our relatives and friends continue to gain extra pounds, admiring the results of our hobby.
