Pelmeni is the most famous semi-finished product that is loved by both adults and children. They do not require a lot of time to cook - just take them out of the packaging and put them in boiling water. You can serve dumplings with sour cream, vinegar, soy and other sauces, boil and fry, serve with baked cheese and mushrooms - there are a lot of options.
And if homemade dumplings are a priori safe, because you will know what ingredients were used when molding them, then it is more difficult with store-bought dumplings - not all products consist of natural ingredients. Therefore, it is so important to know how to choose this semi-finished product so as not to get poisoned.
The composition of dumplings: what can be included in them
The ideal dumplings should contain only 7 ingredients: meat, onions, spices (salt and pepper), flour, water and eggs. In addition to these spices, there may be others, however, the formulations in this case are very vague.
According to Roskachestvo experts, many manufacturers under the guise of spices add flavorings and flavor enhancers to products. Therefore, it is recommended to choose those semi-finished products, on the packaging with which the specific spices that are in the composition are indicated.
In addition to salt, cardamom, caraway seeds, nutmeg can be added. But too many spices should be alarming - perhaps an unscrupulous manufacturer thus decided to disguise low-quality meat.
Some manufacturers also add starch and fiber. This is done to increase the amount of meat filling and save money on it. But such ingredients should not be in high-quality dumplings.
You also need to make sure that when cooking the dumplings do not increase in size (unfortunately, this can be checked only after purchase). This may indicate the presence of soy in the composition. This ingredient is labeled on the product packaging as a vegetable protein or supplement. Its presence in the composition is an indicator that the product must be abandoned.
How to choose the right one?
Before moving on to the composition, it is important to study the appearance of the dumplings. They must be intact, well stitched around the edges. Color - only white or yellow. But other colors may indicate the presence of dyes in the composition.
It is important to remember one more point - high-quality dumplings cannot be stored for more than three months.
Otherwise, they contain many additives and substances that extend the shelf life, which may not be beneficial to health. True, there is one peculiarity here - it often happens that in stores, in order not to lose money on products, price tags and dates are simply interrupted. As a result, it is not always possible to trust this information.
But there is a simple way to check the quality of semi-finished products: you need to take the packaging and shake it. If the dumplings are too stuck together, this may indicate that they have been defrosted and frozen several times. Naturally, you cannot buy them.
What else to pay attention to:
- Filling. It is advisable to buy those products where the percentage indicates how much and what products are added to the dumplings. The most delicious are those products in which the ratio of minced meat to dough is 60 to 40. ,
- Dough. Natural dough consists of only 4 components: water, flour, salt and eggs. If other ingredients are written, this indicates the presence of artificial additives in the composition. It is definitely worth giving up buying such dumplings.
But the most important thing is to pay attention to the product category. There are 5 categories in total, which differ in the amount of natural meat in the composition:
- A (Absolute). These dumplings contain 80% -100% meat.
- B (Take). This product contains from 60 to 80%.
- In (Throw out). Products in this category contain 40-60%.
- D. The percentage of meat is from 20 to 40%.
- D. The lowest quality product. In dumplings - up to 20%.
About categories D and D - you can decipher only with bad words (you can dream up in the comments :)) In general, we do not recommend taking such.
Choose natural products!
P.S. A little more about the categories of meat:
A - fresh meat + bacon (not lard) + onion + spices + a little water.
B - frozen meat (most often beef) + onion + soy + water + spices
V / G - skin emulsion (pork) + sunflower oil emulsion + beef vein + soy + onion.
D - no comment.
