Going on a train ride? We recommend that you think over the menu and ration for the trip in advance, because eating in a cafe at stops can be hazardous to health, and a restaurant car will literally "eat" half of the budget. We have collected useful tips to help you not stay hungry on the road, and not become a victim of food poisoning due to the use of an already spoiled product.
What you definitely shouldn't take: the rule of three "no"
No perishable food
When drawing up the menu, even if you are traveling in winter, you should not take perishable food with you - it is better to take those that can be stored for a long time at room temperature. That is, there should not be salads dressed with mayonnaise, sandwiches with sausage, cakes with cream.
No strong smelling dishes
Yes, you can often see how travelers on trips take boiled eggs, a grill, various pickles, fish preserves with them. I hardly think that the smell of such products in a confined space is not the best choice. Thinking over the menu, remember about your fellow travelers.
No messy or crumbling food
It is better to choose what will be the most convenient to use. For example, if you want to take sausage with you, then either buy it immediately in sliced form, or cut it yourself at home and put it in an airtight container. You should not take those products that will stain you and everything around, for example, crackers, seeds, etc.
TOP train products
In the first place are those of the products that do not need to be cooked: instant soups, "quick" noodles or mashed potatoes, porridge-minutes. They are inexpensive and do not require any special storage conditions.
Vegetables and fruits
Before taking them on the train, they should be thoroughly washed, wiped and sealed in an airtight container. It is advisable to choose strong fruits that are not damaged - on a trip they can deteriorate, and they will have to be thrown out (and if you eat such fruits, poisoning is possible).
You can even cut hard fruits with vegetables in advance, but you also need to eat them first.
A good option is boiled or baked potatoes in their uniforms, which can be stored for almost a day without a refrigerator and do not lose their properties.
Canned vegetables
Also a great option for a long trip, because such products are perfectly stored even without a refrigerator and can be an excellent snack on the road.
But if you want to feast on squash caviar, then eat it immediately after opening - without a refrigerator, the product quickly deteriorates.
Meat and poultry
One of the good options, especially if there are children on the trip, is to fry meat (preferably chicken or beef) in herbs and spices. But you can also take pieces of baked meat with you. For example, if you cut them into thin slices and put them in an airtight container, you can use them later to make sandwiches.
The main thing is not to put the meat in a film or a plastic bag, because in this form it will deteriorate very quickly.
Bread
It is better to take unsweetened portioned pastries on the train, and various muffins with cheese or ham, khachapuri, even simple homemade pies can be stored for up to 2-3 hours without a refrigerator.
But with sweet pastries, it's better to be more careful. So, it is not advisable to take on the train delicious, but dangerous for the stomach buns with cream, cottage cheese. Simpler options are desirable: with cinnamon, dried fruits.
If you take bread, cut it beforehand and do not store it in a regular bag - mold can "settle" on it.
Sweets
Bagels, marmalade, marshmallows and marshmallows are most suitable for traveling on a trip - they do not get your hands dirty and are stored for a long time at room temperature. But it is undesirable to take various chocolate bars and sweets, especially in summer - they will quickly melt.
Milk
If the trip on the trip lasts only a couple of hours, then you can take kefir, yoghurts, a couple of pieces of curd casserole to satisfy your hunger. True, in this case, you will need a thermal bag, where the products will not be lost. But milk in tetrapak packaging can be stored longer and without a kind of "refrigerator".
Vacuum packed products
Hard varieties of cheeses, raw smoked sausages can be stored for 24 hours in vacuum packaging.
But you shouldn't take Doktorskaya or Liverka on a trip - without a refrigerator they quickly deteriorate. And as a result - severe poisoning. Likewise, do not get carried away with pate. canned food and even simple processed curds.
Cereals
On a long trip, you can take ordinary buckwheat with you, since you don't even need to cook it: just put as much as you need in a thermos, pour boiling water and leave for 30-40 minutes, closing the lid well. You can make couscous in the same way.
Children will like sweet breakfast cereals, which are enough to cover with hot water.
The drinks
Do not forget to bring water with you. It is an excellent thirst quencher unlike sugary drinks. If water alone is not enough, prepare berry juice at home or buy kvass. But you shouldn't take coffee and tea with you - you can always buy them from the guides.
What else do you need?
In addition to the above, it is better to take salt, your favorite spices, sugar with you. Moreover, it is advisable to take them not in kilograms, but to buy them in special portioned bags - this is much more convenient and the products will not take up much space.
He also remembers about towels, wet and paper napkins, hand sanitizer gel, disposable dishes.
