Many years have passed since I left McDonald's. But I still fondly remember the days I spent in this restaurant as an employee.
Start: DiCaprio never dreamed of
I was brought to McDonald's by my boyfriend, who at that time was working in the Hamburger Kingdom in the kitchen. They arranged for me quickly - on the same day they gave me instructions and completed all the necessary documents. After that I received a form, a badge, a personal number in the system and a card that needed to "punch" the time of arrival and departure.
At McDonald's they pay every minute, so you had to stop your time even when you were going to the toilet.
And the next morning I was given work tools - a mop and rags.
The work was dusty, but not particularly hard. All that was required was to remove the dirty trays from the tables in a timely manner and wash the floor as it got dirty. Many visitors looked at the cleaners, including me, as cockroaches. Disgusted and sympathetic. But there were also those (a minority, but still) who behaved politely and cleaned up after themselves.
Once, while wiping the floor, I bumped head-on with my former classmate. She was in the company of friends and pretended not to recognize me. Yes, and this happens, unfortunately.
Although, I did not feel flawed. 8 hours flew by unnoticed, money dripped, fed dinner - what else was needed for happiness?
Free cash desk
An important part of McDonald's job is teaching. At a certain station (ticket office, "potato", kitchen) it was necessary to undergo instructions. Then you were assigned a category that allowed you to work there.
They "raised" me a week later. Maybe a month. I don't remember anymore. I learned how to properly fry French fries, and the most difficult and tedious working days began for me.
None of the McDonald's employees like to stand on a potato. Time passes slowly, and besides, it is very hot and hot next to the deep fryer - every now and then you get burns.
But my torment did not last long. For there were no longer enough cashiers, and I was trained to work at the checkout. Yes, I stood and shouted "Free cash register". And I am not at all ashamed of this fact of my biography.
A little more from working days
At the beginning of each week, a schedule was issued. It indicated where and at what station you would work during the next days. And the child understands that the most experienced and perfectly performing their duties were not put in the hall or "on potatoes."
But the guilty ones at McDonald's were not spared.
One girl had a conflict with the management, who wanted to fire her. But she promised to go to court for trying to deprive her of her job for no reason. The director got scared - the restaurant didn't need any extra problems. But since then this girl, who has worked in the restaurant for about 5 years, has been given a “hall” every day. And she washed the floors and cleaned the tables. And she could not show anything. Although, she held fast. And then she, it seems, was even promoted. But that's a completely different story.
What about the food?
Those who are waiting for horrors about cockroaches and complete unsanitary conditions, I hasten to disappoint - you will not find a cafe or even a restaurant more sterile. At least that was the case before. Our "McDonald's" was the only one in the whole city, so the cleanliness and freshness of the products in it was monitored with full dedication.
Anything that fell to the floor was written off. The hamburgers and potatoes that were not bought at the designated time were mercilessly thrown into the trash. Very often it was possible to see how the movers literally tamped the "royal cheeseburgers", "potatoes country style "and other fast food in big black garbage bags and took it all out to McDonald's containers. In general, you know, dogs and vagrants had no chance.
Every employee (except cashiers) was not allowed to his station without gloves. The cleaning rags were treated with a special solution, from which my hands were corroded.
Freebie sir
There was no freebie. Generally and in any way. Only managers were allowed to drink free drinks (sprite, cola, etc.). We were supposed to enjoy regular sparkling water. There were, of course, those who imperceptibly poured lemonade into their glasses. But this was rare, severely punished and considered theft.
I never had major shortages, but a couple of times I saw how the girls, due to inattention, lacked a thousand rubles. And this money was simply... written off. At least for that, the McDonald's system can be respected.
I enjoyed working here. If you didn’t philonil and did your duties perfectly, then no one ever found fault with you. I believe that this is the ideal school of life for students, which helps to join the team and become a kind of many-armed Shiva - first you clean the hall, then, due to the lack of people in the kitchen, you switch to cooking hamburgers and now, at the end of the shift, you are already standing in front of a crowd of people and shouting “Free cashier".
Not the worst start to a career and a great start for future success.
