I want to share with you very simple ways to make coconut milk and coconut flakes from coconut at home. This is much cheaper than buying ready-made in the store. It is very simple to do, it takes little time!
How easy it is to open and choose a good coconut, see my last article - HERE!
Let's get started! I'll start with coconut milk.
First you need to peel the coconut - this is very easy to do with a regular peeler.
I cut the coconut pulp into small pieces.
I transfer the coconut to a blender and fill it with cold clean water.
IMPORTANT! You need to take the same amount of water as coconut, only in milliliters, not grams, and plus another 20%.
EXAMPLE: I have 200 gr. coconut pulp, which means I take 240 ml. water.
I pour water into a blender and grind.
Comment! If you don't have a blender, don't be discouraged. Just grate the coconut on a fine grater, then you don't need to cut the coconut pulp into small pieces. Then just pour water over the grated coconut.
Then I take the cheesecloth, fold it into 3 layers and pour the coconut gruel into the cheesecloth, squeeze it well - this is coconut milk! Which costs just a lot of money in the store :)
I got 240 ml of coconut milk.
How to make coconut flakes?
I take baking paper and spread the chopped coconut in thin layers.
There are 2 options for how to cook further:
1). Leave to dry at room temperature for about a day. It all depends on the ambient temperature.
2). Turn on the oven at 50 degrees and cook for 2 hours.
We transfer the coconut flakes into a container with a lid and use it as needed!
