Who would have thought that most of the delicacies we know were born by chance.
If it seems to you that all the sweets have already been invented and you cannot create something new, maybe you are right. But maybe it only seems so, and thanks to random absurd mistakes, some new unusual dessert may be born.
So it was with the sweets from my today's selection - they all came into being by accident.
Nutella
The prototype for chocolate paste was invented by Pietro Ferrero back in 1946. At first it was a chocolate bar. It was cut open and spread on bread.
But due to the large shortage of chocolate after World War II, Ferrero decided to add only cocoa instead of chocolate. Since the cocoa butter disappeared from the composition, the mass stopped solidifying and became creamy.
At first this product was called SUPERCREMA and only in 1964 was it named Nutella.
Popsicle
Who would have thought that the popular worldwide popsicle was invented by accident. And we need to be grateful for the invention of this delicacy not to an adult. Eskimo was accidentally invented by 11-year-old boy Frank Epperson.
Frank experimented outside by adding baking soda to a glass of water and then stirring with a small stick. At some point, his parents called him to dinner, and he left, and the stick remained in a glass of liquid.
That evening, an abnormal cold snap happened in California, and the water in the glass froze. In the morning, Frank pulled his wand and pulled out a prototype of the future eximo from the glass.
Ice cream already existed then, but no one even thought about making it portioned. Frank managed to make a portion of ice cream, which he sold at local festivals.
People liked the Eskimo, and they willingly bought it. Almost 20 years later, in 1924, Frank patented his invention. Unfortunately, the invention did not bring him a lot of money, but it still makes us all happy.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
We owe the birth of chocolate chip cookies to the American Ruth Wakefield, who worked at the Toll House restaurant.
According to one version, Ruth came up with the cookie quite by accident when she suddenly ran out of cocoa for chocolate cookies in the restaurant kitchen. Then Ruth decided to replace it with chocolate chips, in the hope that the crumb would melt during baking and make the cookies chocolate.
But Ruth was not an amateur baker suddenly running out of supplies. She headed the kitchen at Toll House for a long time and had a special bakery education. Therefore, most likely, the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies was carefully worked out and brought to perfection.
But we all love beautiful stories, so after a while someone came up with the idea that the cookie came out by accident.
What do you think, could this cookie have turned out by accident?
