An honest review of a cafe with unusual desserts.
Recently I was on business in the center of Moscow. The weather was unimportant, it was starting to drizzle and, in order not to get wet, I went into the first cafe I came across.
It turned out to be a cafe called Gentle. Even from the very entrance, I saw huge showcases filled with desserts. It looks like I didn't come here for nothing.
The interior of the cafe is light and, in my opinion, minimalistic. Except for the shelves with coffee and a couple of paintings, the walls are empty. This design is all the rage now, and most new establishments have this style. But I am not a designer, but a pastry chef, and first of all I am interested in what is there for dessert.
And the desserts at Gentle turned out to be all right. At least all the desserts on display look very appetizing. At first even my eyes ran up from such abundance. But I got ready and made an order.
What ordered
In all pastry shops, I always try to try the "lemon meringue tartlet". There was no such thing on the menu, so I took an analogue - a puff cube with lemon curd and meringue.
The dessert looks very impressive. The puff pastry cube is made perfectly: all the edges are clear and ruddy and there is no hint of "burnt".
Inside this “square croissant” there is a filling of lemon cream, and on top it is decorated with meringue burnt with a burner. For the appearance I give 5 points out of 5. It's time to try it.
Taste
But the taste was a little disappointing. More precisely, I expected the lemon cream to be much sour. Immediately, the cream has a very slight sourness, which makes the lemon meringue on top seem too sweet. And if you consider that there is a lot of meringue here, and there is not enough cream, then the dessert becomes too sweet.
When I was just brought this cube, I was worried that it would be inconvenient to eat. Yes, you can't do without a knife and a fork, but the dessert is easy to cut and it is not difficult to eat it.
How much did you pay
I paid for a cube and a cup of coffee - 550 rubles, which is quite acceptable money for the center of Moscow. In the check, you can see that the final score turned out to be much higher, all because I could not resist and took a few more desserts to try.
But I will try them already at home and will tell you about this separately, and now it's time to take stock.
Outcomes
I really liked the Gentle. The cafe has a simple design, but it's very pleasant to be inside. If it were not for the things that awaited me, I would definitely stay here and try something from the hot menu.
The prices for desserts are higher here than in similar places, but there is an excuse for this: the cafe is located in the very center of Moscow, which means a very high rent.
I am glad that the weather caught me next to this particular cafe, otherwise I would hardly have known about such a good place. Will definitely come back here again.
