Food of " patriots": when they teach you to eat right

How much I love the fans of "our", "native", "Russian", who appear with enviable frequency in my comments.

Recently I published a recipe for Turkish cabbage salad. It would seem, what claims can there be against him? Budgetary, tasty, unusual.

But no!

The first two comments are from "true patriots." Directly "we do not need the Turkish coast, and we do not need Africa." They broadcast the truth. They say, you need to eat your own, dear, and not to exchange for everything there.

But I like both the "native" cabbage salad and the Turkish version. I like cabbage rolls and dolma, which is not a native Russian dish. And I will not refuse sweet potato puree if it is well cooked, although I also love the "native" mashed potatoes.

And I will gladly eat both Siberian and gedzu dumplings. And, in addition to naval pasta, I will cook carbonara, and besides cabbage soup, I will also eat Chinese mushroom soup. I don't see anything strange in this, but also ...

I will not go to impose my tastes on those who do not share them. and I don't understand why the "patriots" are so aggressively imposing their own.

I once wrote that those who love to find fault with domestic cuisine are very aggressive. So - those who like to groan everything foreign, "imported" and "imported" - are no better. They are of the same berry field.

At the same time, those that are others do not understand the main thing: there are no products and dishes "ours" and "not ours." In the twenty-first century. The interpenetration of culinary cultures around the world has been going on for a long time - since the first merchant equipped his first caravan.

And when they say that in Russia you need to eat fried potatoes, and with a herring, and a pickled cucumber or tomato - that's, they say, real Russian food, it makes me laugh.

Because potatoes, in fact, are South America, herring is the brainchild of Willem Jacob Beikelson from the village of Bierfleet, cucumbers came to Russia from India (please do not refer to the texts of the Bible, there are translation errors, and the cucumber fields mentioned in the Book of Isaiah were, on in fact, melons, as the Brockhaus Bible Encyclopedia says), tomatoes in general in the 18th century from Italy were donated to Catherine brought.

I already feel that many comrades have not even prepared slippers - hammers, to hammer a blogger who dares to blather that all this is not native Russian. But here I want to add - due to the fact that vegetables and herring did not spontaneously originate with us, but came in the course of development, did they become worse? No. Have they become less tasty? No.

It's just that the screamers did not know about the originality of their history - and that's all. And you can shout, showing yourself as patriots, as much as you like. But is it just necessary? As for me, this does not do honor.

The only criterion that can determine culinary habits and gastronomic preferences is the personal taste of each person. And he has no right to impose it on anyone. Share - can. Whoever likes it, he will take it into account, take it into service, and that's all.

Shl. And buckwheat, by the way, the one that is now also considered native Russian, was brought to us from Byzantium.

So that's it.
