Do you like pistachios? Now we are going to tell you something very interesting about them.
Delicious and very expensive ...
People have been using them for food for over 2500 years. They were especially popular in Persia - they were revered there as a symbol of wealth. They have not lost their popularity until now, they go well as a snack for drinks with alcohol, and they are also dangerous in terms of storage. And that's all about pistachios.
Yes, pistachios are never stored in large quantities in one place, they are sold in small packages - which is not a marketing ploy at all.
So why can't you store a lot of pistachio nuts in one place?
Did you know these nuts are fire hazardous? They have the ability to self-heat and can eventually ignite spontaneously. And the reason for this is storage in large volumes or transportation in bags.
Important! Pistachio kernels ignite even faster next to flammable and fibrous materials.
What's wrong with these pistachios?
It's simple - the main reason for the ignition of pistachios is in the high content of oil in the composition. And during transportation, in combination with friction, it happens pfff... and even boom!
But that is not all. Even if the pistachios are not transported anywhere, they can burst out of the blue in the warehouse. Again, the reason is in the oil, since after being harvested, metabolic processes continue in the nuts. As a result, this process of decomposition of oil (fat) in pistachios leads to self-heating.
Is that why pistachios are so expensive? Because there are few of them and they are poorly stored?
In part, yes. But there is also an additional price factor and it lies in the conditions of preparation and storage so that the valuable product does not burn out.
Firstly, pistachios should be as dry as possible for preservation, since the slightest moisture starts the self-heating process.
Secondly, in the storage room and for transportation, a low temperature is required to stop the internal processes in pistachios.
And all this is a serious monetary cost. So ...
Good luck to you! And health!
