Tareats (literally means annual bread in Armenian) is the Armenian national bread, a round gata, traditionally baked in Armenia and in the Armenian diaspora, a must on the Armenian New Year's table. Tareats has a round or oval shape, sprinkled with seeds, nuts or dried fruits on top, which symbolize the abundance of the current year's harvest. A coin is placed inside, which symbolizes wealth and good luck. On Christmas Eve, tareats is cut and distributed to family members. Whoever gets the coin is expected to be lucky at home. The size of the tareats depends on the number of family members. In our family, tareats is baked on January 12, and according to tradition, the eldest cuts the gata and the youngest guesses who will get the pieces. 🤗🤗🤗 this is a very beautiful, warm and sincere tradition. Round gata " Tareats"

Ingredients: eggs (large), sugar, matsoni, soda, salt, butter, vegetable oil, flour, stuffing, melted butter, sugar, flour, vanillin

Cooking method:

All ingredients are taken at room temperature. Melt butter. In a deep bowl, lightly beat 3 eggs with sugar and salt. Add soda to matsoni, mix well and pour into eggs. add melted butter (leave 2-3 tbsp. l) and vegetable. Mix well.

Gradually add the sifted flour. When the dough comes together, dust the table and lay out the dough. We continue to knead on the table. The dough should be soft, elastic and not sticky to your hands. Cover with a towel and leave for 10-15 minutes.

In the meantime, prepare the crumb or choriz filling. Add sugar, flour and vanillin to melted butter, rub everything well into crumbs.

We divide the finished dough into three parts. We take one, roll it out, grease it with melted butter and put it in an envelope. Do the same for the other two parts.

Then we roll the envelope into a circle, pour 1/3 of the filling into the center. We put a well-washed coin in it. We collect the edges of the dough like a khinkal, fix it well and again slightly roll it out giving a round shape.

We shift it onto a baking sheet, pinch the sides giving shape, forge with a fork on top and make patterns. Lubricate with a beaten egg and send to bake in preheated to 200 degrees. oven for about 30-35 minutes. (Look at your oven).

As soon as the gata is reddened, you can get it, and after cooling, cut it.
