Ingredients:

  • slightly salted herring - 2 pcs.
  • onion - 1 pc.
  • raisins - 2 tbsp. l.

Marinade:

  • sunflower oil - 3/4 tbsp.
  • lemon juice - 3 tbsp. l.
  • soy sauce - 1 tbsp. l.
  • honey - 1 tbsp. l.
  • French mustard grains - 1 tsp l.
  • ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp. l.
  • ground ginger - 1/2 tsp. l.
  • ground black pepper - 1/2 tsp. l.

Step by step recipe

1. Prepare two lightly salted herring.
First, we clean the herring from the insides. Then we make an incision along the entire ridge and remove the skin.

2. Next, carefully separate one fillet from the bones with your hands. Separate the second fillet in the same way. The bones that remain are taken out with tongs for fish bones or by hand.

3. Cut all four fillets into bite-sized pieces.

4. Let's prepare the rest of the ingredients.
Cut one onion into half rings.
2 tbsp. l. Wash the raisins first in cold water, and then pour boiling water for 10 minutes.

5. We are preparing the marinade.
Pour 1 tbsp into a bowl. soy sauce, pour ¾ cup of vegetable oil here, pour 0.5 tsp. ground cinnamon, 0.5 tsp each ground ginger and black ground pepper, put 2 tsp. French mustard grains, 1 tbsp. honey and squeeze the juice from half a lemon, this is about 3 Art. l. We mix everything.
Mustard seeds can be replaced with regular mustard.

6. In a bowl, put the prepared herring fillet, chopped onion and raisins in layers. Pour everything with the prepared marinade. The marinade should cover the entire herring.

7. Cover the bowl with cling film or a lid and marinate in the refrigerator for a day.

The herring appetizer in a spicy marinade turned out to be very tasty and unusual. Herring was soaked with spicy aromas of seasonings and acquired an incredible refined taste. Raisins also harmoniously fit into this dish and gave the herring, along with honey, a light sweetish note. Be sure to cook the herring in such a marinade, I think you will definitely not regret it.
