Ingredients:

  • fresh-frozen mackerel - 2 pcs.
  • garlic - 5 cloves
  • salt - 1 tsp. l.
  • ground nutmeg - 1/3 tsp. l.
  • ground black pepper - to taste

Step by step recipe

1. Let's prepare the fish first.
Wash two already defrosted mackerels and clean them from the insides.
Cut each fish into two fillets. We make an incision along the ridge of the mackerel. Carefully separate the ridge from the carcass of the fish with our hands, first on one side, and then on the other. This is not at all difficult to do.

2. We also cut off all the fins with a knife. If there are still bones left in the fillet, we pull them out with our hands in this fish there are very few of them. I pull out the pits with special pitting tongs.

3. Mince 5 cloves of garlic with a knife.

4. Put the prepared mackerel fillets on the board. We salt the fish only on one side, about 1 tsp. salt, pepper to taste and sprinkle with ⅓ tsp. nutmeg. Place chopped garlic on top of the fish. We rub the seasonings with our hands, and press the garlic a little into the mackerel fillet.

5. Roll each fillet into a tight roll. We start twisting from the tail.

6. Wrap each roll tightly in cling film. First, put the mackerel rolls in the refrigerator for 4-5 hours so that they marinate, and then transfer them to the freezer for a day.

7. Before serving, take the fish out of the freezer and leave it on the table for 15-20 minutes to make it easier to cut. We cut the rolls that have not yet been completely thawed into portions and serve.
Rolls can be prepared in advance, even a few weeks before the holiday and kept in the freezer.
