Apple Pork #Æbleflæsk is a traditional Danish dish consisting of pork fried with apples, thyme and sugar. Today it is one of the must-have Christmas treats, it is certainly served in Christmas shops. Yes, and on weekdays it can be found in any catering establishment in Denmark. It is prepared simply and fairly quickly, and the ingredients are readily available and inexpensive. The dish, for all its simplicity, is very interesting. And what a delicious - I guarantee you!

Danish style pork with apples (Æbleflæsk)

Ingredients: Pork (peritoneum with layers of meat), Onion (large), Sweet, crispy apples, Dry or fresh thyme sprigs, Ground black pepper and Salt

Cooking method:

Prepare all the necessary ingredients.

For this dish you will need pork belly with layers of meat. It is better if there is more meat than fat. Cut the pork into pieces 7-10 mm thick. Onion cut into thin half rings or feathers.

In a frying pan greased with vegetable oil, fry the pork until tender and golden brown. Place pork on paper towels to absorb excess fat.

Drain the fat from the pan, leaving a couple of tablespoons and fry the chopped onion in it, adding a little salt to it. Simmer onion over low heat until lightly browned and caramelized. Peel apples from seeds and cut into thick slices. Each apple is about 8 pieces. Add to the onion, sprinkle with sugar, fry for 5 minutes.

We heat up the oven to 180ºС. We spread the onion, apples and pork in a deep form. Sprinkle with thyme and salt. Bake until the apples are soft, but they should not lose their shape. You can also cook this dish in the same pan, stewing everything under the lid, but it turns out tastier in the oven.

We take the dish out of the oven, put it on plates and serve with rye bread. Bon Appetit!
