This explains the recommendations to drink coffee a few hours before bedtime, otherwise you will not be able to fall asleep or it will be possible, but with difficulty.
After a specified time, the receptors return to normal and can again combine with adenosine.
And yet, there are people, an exception to the rules of action of caffeine, whom coffee puts to sleep.
