Potatoes with stew and spicy sprat

How many delicious things we ate in Soviet times! It is a pity that that cuisine and traditions are slowly forgotten.

Let's go back 30 or even 40 years ago and cook delicious meals from our childhood or youth.

Let's start with potatoes with stewed meat and fried onions. A banal dish of the Soviet people, but for many it was festive and memorable.

In our family he was called "army potato", or in German. Since my dad served in the seventies in Germany and told what he was fed there: stewed cabbage with sausages, pork shank, potato salad and mashed potatoes with stew.
Tasty, of course, compared to millet kulesh or barley.

So, how to cook it, that very potato.

Ingredients:

1-1.5 kg potatoes
1 can beef stew
2 onions
vegetable oil
salt
ground black pepper

How to cook:

1. Wash the potatoes, peel and boil until tender in salted water.
2. Drain and mashed potatoes. You can add a little broth in which it was cooked.
3. Peel and cut onions into cubes or half rings. Fry the onions in vegetable oil until golden brown.


4. In mashed potatoes, place a jar of stew, as well as fried onions with all the oil from the pan.
5. Stir the dish, salt and season with freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Done! Serve hot with pickled cucumber, mushrooms or spicy salted fish.

Spicy pickled sprat as in the USSR

Everything is simple here.

Ingredients:

500 gr. fresh sprat
1 tbsp. l. coarse salt without a slide
1 tbsp. l. Sahara
1 hour l. lemon juice
10 black peppercorns
5 allspice peas
3 bay leaves
1 hour l. coriander seed

How to cook:

1. Rinse the sprat and fill with a dressing of salt, sugar and lemon juice.
2. Add bay leaves, black pepper and sweet peas, some grainy mustard and whole coriander.
3. Mix everything, place under oppression and in the refrigerator.

In a day, the sprat will be ready.

Enjoy your meal!
