4. Bring to a boil, reduce and cook over low heat for 15 minutes.
5. Open the canned beans and add the entire contents and liquid to a saucepan.
6. Onions or a couple of garlic cloves can be added to the stew. Season with salt, toss 2-3 bay leaves, season with pepper and add 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Cook the stew over low heat, covered, until the potatoes begin to boil.
