My green onions grow all year round, because I grow them myself on the windowsill. And WITHOUT LAND! I always grow it, well, except that I don’t do this in the summer, because there is so much greenery in the country. My method is very simple, not troublesome, and fast.
So, you can, of course, grow in the ground, but this option does not suit me, because there are small children in the house who can drop trays and spill the ground. By the way, whoever has cats or dogs at home may have the same.
Therefore, my way is without land. So, we take ordinary bulbs and soak them for 10 minutes in warm water. You don't have to, but I read somewhere that this is how the onion begins to grow faster.
Then we take a deep baking sheet or plastic containers, or like I have cookie trays, in general, some kind of suitable container. Pour some water there and put cardboard egg cartons.
We put the bulbs in them and put them on the windowsill. The cardboard boxes will get wet and give moisture to the bulbs, which in turn will begin to grow.
Do not forget to periodically add water and make sure that a bad smelling "swamp" does not form in the container or on the box. Therefore, I recommend rinsing the container sometimes.
The green onion begins to grow very quickly, it tastes just great, and most importantly, it is always fresh, and always at hand. I start to grow it in late fall to spring.
