New Year is coming soon, and I faced a choice. What to give to colleagues and people who want to do something nice, but there are so many of them that you can go broke. In such cases, I buy sets of chocolates.
This is usually something inexpensive. This year, I decided that I was ready to spend no more than 300 rubles on a box of chocolates. But I'm not ready to buy low quality sweets, and even more so with palm oil in the composition. So I went to the store to find out, is it really possible to buy a box of chocolates up to 300 rubles without a “palm tree” in the composition?
I already wrote about the harm of palm oil. In a nutshell: Directly pressed palm oil is not harmful by itself. But for use in the production of sweets, it is processed, after which genotoxic carcinogens appear in it. I am not a chemist and in this matter I rely on research, which you can read about link.
Sweets Moscow "Red October"
The first sweets from the Krasny Oktyabr factory caught my eye. I had never tried these before, so I decided to buy them, even in spite of the composition. And with him there is a problem - there is palm oil in the composition. It is used as a substitute for milk fat.
The candy tasted unpleasant. Inside there is a white jelly mass and a little marmalade. I am not at all impressed.
Set "Assorted from RotFront"
I rarely buy such sets. Inside, in addition to delicious sweets, there are sweets that you don't feel like eating at all. But today I'm more worried about the composition. There is no cocoa butter in these candies at all, it was replaced with other vegetable oils.
In the Russian description, they decided not to describe the composition of vegetable oils, but there is a composition in English nearby. And here you can see that it was not without palm oil.

Here, the composition is better. True, instead of milk fat - vegetable oils. As with the RotFront, history repeats itself. The English version shows that the vegetable oils contain "palm". But I am glad that at least cocoa butter is in place.

To my surprise, they decided not to replace cocoa butter and milk fat in these sweets. This means that the chocolate itself must be of good quality. But early on I was happy. The composition contains special-purpose fat, but it already contains various variations of the “palm”. This kind of fat is most likely used to make fillings.
Dove promises
I was already desperate to find sweets up to 300 rubles without a “palm tree” in the composition. But I got a box of Dove chocolates. When I read the composition, I was surprised - there is no palm oil or other plant substitutes.
True, it is difficult to call it sweets. In my opinion it looks more like pieces of milk chocolate wrapped in foil. But all the same, I'm glad that there were no substitutes.
I am surprised how the brands RotFront, Krasny Oktyabr and Babayevsky began to hide in their composition palm oil. Therefore, be careful if you are considering buying candy from these manufacturers.
