In the morning I can't eat anything but oatmeal. For me, breakfast is always associated exclusively with oatmeal. No, I'm not a healthy person, but for 10 years I have been starting my day with porridge. But my wife sometimes wants variety in the morning.
I have already developed a recipe for her granola (muesli), baked oat cakes (I will leave links to recipes at the end of the article), but she was tired of the porridge again. And since I am responsible for breakfast in our family, I had to come up with something new.
The important point is that I do not like to spend a lot of time on cooking in the morning. I have been optimizing the breakfast preparation process for 10 years and spend only 2 minutes in the morning to get everything ready. Therefore, a new oatmeal recipe for a wife shouldn't take long.
While thinking about what to cook, I remembered how we cooked porridge on hikes, when we had to get up early in the morning. We just poured cold water over the oatmeal in the evening, and by morning it was ready. I took this method as a basis.
That field porridge had only one drawback, it was not tasty. We went on a hike for 3-4 weeks without access to shops, so we took a limited amount of food. Still, I had to carry on myself.
But when you're at home, you can add a variety of healthy foods to add flavor and aroma to your nightly oatmeal. This time I came across: flax seeds, dried cranberries, banana and red currant jam. But you can easily add your own goodies that come to mind.
For cooking, I use a half-liter jar with a screw cap, it is more convenient to store this way. First I add ⅓ long-boiled oatmeal.
I do not like oatmeal, which has been steamed and flattened almost into dust, there is no benefit left in it. But any oatmeal will do.
After the oatmeal, pour in Greek yogurt, take as much as you like.
Then I add the rest of the dry ingredients and put in the bananas last. I pour it with liquid red currant jam, and pour milk almost to the brim. Stir with a long spoon or fork and leave in the refrigerator overnight.
That's it, oatmeal is ready in the morning. During the night, the flakes will absorb moisture and swell. I cooked something, but did your wife like it?
My wife liked it. Especially the fact that in this way you can come up with different flavor combinations, but to me - that the time for making breakfast has not increased in any way.
What do you eat for breakfast?
