Crispy baguette and delicate sweet apricot marmalade. Such a dessert can be prepared in literally 30 minutes.
I love simple recipes that save time, effort, and most importantly the family budget. Recently, I could not resist and bought a box of apricots at the wholesale market. I have already managed to prepare dry jam, pie and compote from these apricots.
Now it's time to do something quick and inexpensive.
Step-by-step recipe for how to cook apricot croutons
- Apricots 450 g
- Sugar 60 g
- Butter 30 g
- Starch 7 g
- Water 1 tablespoon
- Baguette 1 pc
I cut the baguette into small pieces. With the help of a glass, I crush the bread crumb. I repeat this with all the pieces of bread. Now I'm going to prepare the filling.
For the filling, I wash the apricots and remove the pits. Cut into small pieces. You can determine the size yourself, I like it when the cubes are about 1 cm.
I melt the butter in a frying pan and wait for it to darken a little. Add the chopped apricots and fry for 5 minutes.
I add sugar, starch diluted in water and mix until smooth.
Leave to fry for another 5 minutes.
If you want the filling to be thicker, you need to increase the amount of starch. Cornstarch works best as it doesn't have its own flavor or smell.
When the filling is ready, I spread it over the prepared pieces of bread and send it to bake for 20 minutes at 180-200 ° C.
During this time, the bread will be fried and crispy, and in some places will be covered with a golden crust.
That's it, a penny dessert made from bread and apricots is ready!
