Proteins are one of the important elements in the human diet. So, our body is almost 20% of them. And that is why it is so important that a person gets the amount of protein he needs to support the body in a normal, healthy state.

Why are proteins so important?

This micronutrient is involved in building muscles, cells, tissues, and is involved in the transport of nutrients inside the body. But the main thing especially about protein is that the body stores it "just in case." And this is the main problem.

With a lack of protein, the whole body suffers: the condition of the nails and hair, teeth worsens, the skin becomes less elastic, the muscles become sluggish. In addition, the general condition of the body worsens, insomnia, headaches, and many other unpleasant symptoms of protein deficiency may appear.

As a result, to prevent this from happening, many begin to heavily lay on foods with a high protein content in the composition and even drink protein shakes, exceeding the norm. And this is also a mistake, since protein, if the body does not consume it, will begin to transform into fatty deposits.

But this is not so bad. Scientists have been able to prove that eating protein foods too often can cause kidney problems.

Daily requirement

How much protein should you consume per day? This is influenced by both body weight and lifestyle. A person who does not play sports needs 1-1.5 g per kilogram of body. But if a person is active, goes to the gym, it is necessary to increase this amount to about 3 g.

Many do not know, but knowledge workers also need to increase their number in their diet, because the active work of the brain requires serious nutrition. In addition, pregnant girls also need to increase the intake of this substance, since the girl will divide the nutrients entering the body into two

Why is excess protein harmful?

Canadian scientists talked about the dangers of getting large amounts of protein into the body. Some believe that there is nothing wrong with this, but in fact there is a danger.

Scientists from Canada have studied the effects of the famous Ducan protein diet. And, in their opinion, it can cause kidney stones.

I would like to note right away: the developer of such a diet himself was suspended from work and deprived of the opportunity to practice in 2017. And he himself said more than once that such a diet can lead to vitamin deficiency, constipation, and bad breath.

But that's not all. Doctors conducted a study on two groups of rats: one group was fed regular foods for 90 days, the second - protein foods. As a result, the last group "lost weight" by 10%. But at the same time, scientists noted: in the test animals, the volume of the kidneys increased by 22%, and the acidity of urine increased. These are the most important symptoms of urolithiasis, which in the future threatens renal failure.

Protein acts in a similar way on the human body.

But this is not the main disadvantage. Scientists have noticed that after 1.5-2 years after applying a protein diet, kilograms can return back. And such fluctuations are dangerous for our health.

What else is dangerous about excess protein?

Some scientists and doctors say that if you consume too much protein, it harms not only the kidneys. This can lead to:

  • Osteoporosis. This disease is characterized by a decrease in bone density. With an excess of protein in the body, the process of blood acidification occurs, and the body activates calcium to cleanse it. Because of this, the reserves of this substance in the body are reduced, which means that the bones become brittle. True, this was noted only among those who lead a passive lifestyle - athletes who consume protein in large quantities do not have such a problem.
  • Digestive problems. Protein can cause constipation, diarrhea and other unpleasant symptoms. But only if there is a lack of fiber. Therefore, in order to avoid such problems, you should eat more fruits and vegetables.

  • Diseases of the cardiovascular system. Many believe that increased protein intake can lead to heart problems. But this happens if people choose less-quality sources of protein with saturated fat. As a result, this leads to an increase in the level of bad cholesterol, the formation of plaques. But if you choose quality products, you don't have to worry about the negative consequences.
In general, an overabundance will not bring a completely healthy person to severe problems, but it is impossible to find a 100% healthy person, therefore it is better not to exceed your norm.

True, you can avoid problems with the body by compensating for the acidity of the protein, for which you should include more fruits and vegetables in the diet.

And in case of serious kidney diseases, the amount of protein should be reduced to the maximum or completely abandoned altogether.
