Gravy with flour and tomato paste is a versatile dish that goes well with any side dish. It is prepared very simply, quickly, from available products. Due to flour, it becomes thicker and acquires a velvety texture.
This recipe is considered basic, if you wish, you can modify it by adding pieces of fried meat, sausage or bacon to the gravy. With meat products, it turns out to be more satisfying, although it is very nutritious without them. Due to such gravies, you can emphasize the advantages of the served dish or hide its disadvantages. I recommend giving it a try.
Ingredients:
Onions - 1 pc.
Carrots - 1 pc.
Salt to taste
Ground black pepper - to taste
Tomato paste - 1 tablespoon
Flour - 1 tbsp.
Sugar - 0.5 tsp
Water - 300 ml.
Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
Step by step recipe:
1. Prepare the required set of ingredients.
2. First you need to peel and wash the vegetables. Dice the onion, grate the carrots.
3. Put in a frying pan with vegetable oil and fry, stirring occasionally, until golden brown. Add salt and black pepper.
4. Then add wheat flour. It is not necessary to sift it, although if you are not sure about the quality of this product, it is better to sift it to avoid debris getting into the gravy. Stir constantly, fry for 1 minute. Do not neglect this step, if you do not fry the flour, a flour aftertaste will be present in the finished dish.
5. Pour in water, add tomato paste and a little sugar. The last ingredient is needed to balance the acid in the paste.
6. To stir thoroughly. The flour and tomato paste should completely dissolve in the liquid to form a smooth sauce.
7. Bring contents of a skillet to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer the dish for 15 minutes. If the gravy looks too thick, add a little water. Adjust the flavor with spices and remove from heat.
8. The dish is ready.
Serve the flour and tomato paste hot. It can perfectly complement any side dish, meat and fish dishes.
Bon Appetit!
