Captain's style meat with potatoes in the oven

For some reason, I am more than sure that this dish is familiar and beloved in many families, everyone simply calls it differently. Today I want to show and tell how it was prepared in the family of my parents, respectively, in this form I got the recipe. My parents cooked meat like a captain's with potatoes in the oven on weekends, since the process is quite long, but the result is worth it. The dish is really delicious, hearty and high in calories.

Ingredients:

Pork - 400 g

Potatoes - 500 g

Bulb onions - 1 pc.

Mayonnaise - 1 tablespoon

Hard cheese - 100 g

Salt to taste

Ground black pepper - to taste

Let's prepare products according to the list. I offer you a classic recipe for this dish, although today there are many other options - with the addition of mushrooms, tomatoes and generally different vegetables that are suitable here.

Wash the meat, wipe it dry with paper towels. Peel the potatoes, peel the onions. We wash the vegetables too, dry them.

We put each slice of pork meat on a wooden cutting board, cover with cling film, beat off. We cut the piece into several parts, so it will be more convenient to get the finished dish out of the baking sheet.

Cut the onions into half rings, put half on the bottom of the baking sheet.

The next layer is to put pieces of beaten pork. Sprinkle them with salt and pepper to taste.

Sprinkle on top again with chopped onions (second part).

There is no single standard for cutting potatoes for this dish, but I have always cut them into strips, I do the same. Put the chopped potatoes in a deep bowl, add salt and pepper, mayonnaise. Mix well, each potato slice should be well seasoned with sauce and spices.

Place the seasoned potatoes on a layer of pork meat.

Sprinkle on top with a thick layer of grated hard cheese. Cover with food foil and put in an oven preheated to 190 degrees for at least an hour.

After a while, carefully open the form and check for readiness, if necessary, leave it in the oven until the potatoes are fully cooked.

10 minutes before the end of cooking, remove the foil, turn on the convection mode and let the cheese cover with a crust.

We serve the finished dish on the table in the same form in which it was baked.
