Hello honest people. Potato casseroles of this kind are common in our home. Due to their availability, simplicity and variability, we prepare them more or less regularly.

Potato casserole with meat in the oven is prepared quite quickly and easily, it is hearty and easily suits both for lunch and for a hearty dinner. Plus, you can diversify it. In the end, I'll tell you what can be changed.

Potatoes - 1kg

Minced beef - 500g

Eggs - 3

Onion - 1

Vegetable oil - 3 tbsp.

Salt - 2 tsp

Black pepper - 1 \ 2 tsp.

Peel the potatoes, cut into large pieces and transfer to a saucepan. Pour water over to cover. Put on fire.

After boiling, add 1.5 tsp. salt and cook for 20-25 minutes until tender. Once done, the water can be drained.

Mash the potatoes so that there are no lumps left. Allow to cool.

Peel and cut the onion into medium-sized cubes.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry onion slices over low heat until golden brown. Fold the finished onion separately.

Fry the minced meat in the same pan over high heat. And as the liquid evaporates, reduce the fire, salt 1 \ 2 tsp. salt and cook for another couple of minutes. The minced meat should brown slightly.

Mix the minced meat with onions and heat over medium heat for a couple of minutes.

Add 2 eggs to the cooled potatoes and mix thoroughly.

Put a little more than half of all potatoes in a baking dish. It is convenient to level it with a silicone spatula.

Put the minced meat with onions in a second layer and level it in the same way.

Put the remaining mashed potatoes in a final layer and level again.

Separately mix the remaining raw egg with 2 tablespoons. water and brush the entire surface of the casserole with the mixture.

Place the dish in an oven preheated to 200 C and cook the dish for 20-25 minutes. If the surface remains light, you can turn on the top grill for the last few minutes. If not, then bake for a few more minutes so that the top is browned.

Technical issues and replacements

Meat: Beef can be swapped for chicken or lamb. For a change, minced meat can be made not dry, but add a little to it tomatoes in their own juice and cook a thick tomato sauce with meat. Only, I repeat, it must be thick, otherwise everything will blur.

If you get bored with minced meat, you can take fried slices of chicken thighs instead (remove the bone first) or ham.

The top layer of the casserole can be made with a texture by crushing the puree all over the surface with a fork. Then, after baking, it will be more crispy.

Here is such a simple and unpretentious casserole with meat. Preparing, as you can see, is easy. Light crispy crust, soft mashed potatoes and a delicious meat filling. Isn't it wonderful? Well, such a thing is perfect for lunch or dinner. FROM tomato sauce or sour cream. As an accompaniment, I like tomato juice with red pepper - a very successful combination.
