During the New Year and Christmas holidays, it is customary to bake aromatic, spicy sweets. In most cases, baking like this takes a long time. But there is a fragrant, spicy dessert that creates a festive atmosphere, and it takes only 30-40 minutes to prepare it. We are talking about Viennese strudel with apples and cinnamon.
To prepare a roll, you will need ready-made puff pastry without yeast. You can, of course, cook it yourself, this is your choice. Today we will take a simpler path, especially since the choice of puff pastry on the market is quite large. You can put berries, cottage cheese, nuts in the filling. But it so happened that the classic version of the Viennese strudel is filled with apples.
Ingredients:
Yeast-free puff pastry - 0.4 kg.
Apples - 0.5 kg.
Cinnamon - 1 tsp
Sugar - 100 grams
Cornstarch - 3 heaped tablespoons
Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Course of action:
Prepare the required foods. You can use potato or corn starch. You can use cane sugar instead of white sugar.
Peel and core the apples, cut into arbitrary pieces. You can sprinkle them with lemon juice to keep them from darkening.
Combine all the ingredients for the filling: apples, starch, sugar and cinnamon.
Defrost the puff pastry, if it was frozen. Roll out into a thin layer 3 mm thick. To prevent the dough from sticking to the work surface, dust it with a little starch or flour. Stepping back from the edges, lay out the entire volume of the filling.
Roll up. Secure the edges. This should be done very carefully, as the dough is thin enough and can tear.
Roll the workpiece (seam down) onto baking paper and transfer it to a baking sheet on it. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
Puff pastry apple strudel is ready. Allow it to cool before slicing. Sprinkle with icing sugar when serving.
And without breaking the tradition, serve strudel the way it is served in the Czech Republic, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a mint leaf.
Have a fragrant and delicious holiday!
