What cannot be taken away from the times of the USSR is wonderful desserts, many of which are still popular on our tables. We have collected 10 of the most popular delicacies that have not lost their love today.
Potato cake
I think this is the most popular sweet of the Soviet Union era. If desired, the cake can even be made from white bread. But the real "Potato" was made on the basis of biscuit crumbs, cream, cocoa, and chocolate glaze was used. It got its name for its resemblance to a potato tuber, since many housewives decorated it on top with small dots of cream that resembled eyes.
Peaches
If it was problematic to find real fruit on the shops in stores, then a cake with the same name was sold in almost every store. And at home they were made both on weekdays and on weekends - they looked very beautiful, they liked adults and children.
At the same time, there were no artificial colors in the delicacy, because beet or carrot juice was added to the mass to resemble real fruits. But the filling was a mixture of peach jam and boiled condensed milk.
Nuts with condensed milk
This is a very favorite treat in our house. To prepare it, housewives still buy special forms that resembled two frying pans connected to each other.
Nuts were prepared quickly, which cannot be said about the cream - it was made on the basis of boiled condensed milk. It took quite a lot of time to prepare - about 3-4 hours, as well as a bit of courage, because many cans exploded, covering the walls and ceiling of the kitchen with an almost indelible composition.
Napoleon cake"
If any dessert can be called royal, then this one. Cake lovers were divided into two camps: some preferred crunchy flaky cakes with butter cream, others - thin, pancake-like, used custard.
But the classic "Napoleon", which could be bought in stores, was made precisely from thin layered cakes with a layer of custard.
Chocolate sausages
Unlike real raw smoked sausage, which was also difficult to find in stores, this cake of the same name was a frequent guest on the tables of Soviet people. They also sold them in the cafe, because the taste of chocolate sausage is no different from cake.
Moreover, it was prepared strictly according to GOST: they used cookies, milk, butter, cocoa and sugar.
Boiled condensed milk rolls
Another popular treat after nuts. Prepared from the same dough, but looks different. The base was prepared in a special waffle iron - it was very important to roll up the tube immediately after cooking, because it solidified very quickly and immediately broke.
Cake pigeon's milk"
This dessert was invented by the chefs of the Prague restaurant in Arbat and was the first product in the Union to receive a patent for a recipe. To launch the production line, a separate workshop was created in the restaurant, in which up to 2,000 cakes were prepared daily, but it still remained in short supply. Huge queues lined up outside the restaurant every day.
Because it was impossible to bake at home - the recipe was kept in strict confidence.
Caramel in a spoon
Who didn't make such a dessert in childhood? Just a couple of minutes and you can get a delicious dessert on a stick. I think modern children would also do this with pleasure - just show them.
It is enough to pour a small amount of sugar into a spoon, a little water and heat the mass over the fire until the sugar dissolves. It only remains to remove the spoon from the heat in time, otherwise the sugar may burn out and the taste of the dessert will be completely spoiled.
Meringue
Air meringue is one of the most exquisite desserts of the Soviet Union era. Moreover, for its preparation, only a few ingredients are needed: egg white, sugar, and instead of cream - condensed milk or jam.
But in the cafe, this delicacy was prepared a little differently, using butter, milk and eggs.
Pies with jam
Fried pies are the most affordable street food. Moreover, the assortment was huge: with meat, rice, eggs, cottage cheese. But from the sweet, children and adults loved the most with jam.
Such a dessert could be made at home: the dough is simple, without eggs and on water. And instead of jam, some housewives used caramel - during cooking, it melted, turning into the best delicacy in the world.
