In winter, food changes: we begin to consume less fruit and greens, because what is sold in stores is often worse in quality than the "summer" gifts of nature, and is quite expensive. Therefore, many are switching to more satisfying and inexpensive food: cereals, pasta, seaming. There is an opinion that our ancestors survived only thanks to this diet, and our body is adapted to it.

But to think so is wrong.

Firstly, in winter it is all the more impossible to give up vegetables and fruits, since the sources of vitamins and trace elements are already insufficient.

Secondly, the jams and marinades that our ancestors used were significantly different from modern ones - they were more useful.

Therefore, it is so important to know what food should be in the cold season, so that we do not gain extra pounds, and at the same time receive useful substances.

Should you use jam?

Many are accustomed to eating sweets in winter, especially homemade jam.

But jam in the form we are used to seeing today appeared only in the middle of the 19th century, when the cost of sugar dropped significantly and it became an affordable product. Before that, the dessert was made on the basis of natural fruits, the resulting product was more like a marshmallow.

The taste was different, but the sweetness was an order of magnitude more useful: it helps to normalize the digestive processes, lowers the level of “bad” cholesterol, and protects against many other diseases.

If you want just jam, then it is better to make it with honey, and not with sugar.

Pickles cooked under oppression

Pickles and peas were previously prepared a little differently: under pressure, that is, in an open way. Despite the different names, this process resembled lactic acid fermentation.

And such products are much more useful than modern rolls (much less salt, but there are probiotics useful for immunity). Yes, pickles cannot compete with fresh vegetables and fruits in terms of the amount of vitamins and microelements, but in winter they will help fill the lack of vitamins. They also contain nutrients, antioxidants and other substances that are so necessary for health.

Mandatory rule "500 grams"

WHO claims: a day, especially in winter, a person should consume at least 0.5 kg of fruits and vegetables daily. For some reason, many people think that this is a lot, but in fact, it is quite simple to comply with this norm.

Calculate for yourself: one tangerine weighs on average about 50-100 g, an orange - up to 200 g, it's good at least once a day eat a vegetable salad, make vegetable side dishes for meat, soups, and add the usual seasoning instead of the usual greens.

True, you need to choose the right products. For example, you can eat not only fresh fruits, but also frozen ones. Also useful are natural fruit and vegetable purees, canned beans.

In a small amount, you can use urine and pickles made under oppression. You should not get carried away with them too much, since there is salt in the composition.

Should I eat more fat in winter?

Many people are sure that in winter, you need to eat more fatty foods, since they will help to keep warm at sub-zero temperatures. At the same time, butter, lard and other fatty foods are harmful both for our figure and for blood vessels.

Doctors confirm that fats will really help you keep warm. But not only animal but also vegetable fats are effective.

You can use vegetable oils: just add them to salads or season ready-made blues. Saltwater fish, seafood and even seaweed help a lot. Moreover, the latter are rich in iodine, which is also needed by our body: it speeds up metabolism, improves the functioning of the thyroid gland.

What product can be called the main one in the cold season?

Doctors say that in winter, cod liver must be included in the diet. The explanation is quite simple:

  • a large amount of omega-3 acids in the composition, which reduce the risk of the appearance of cholesterol plaques (this is very important in winter, when our diet becomes more high-calorie and fatty);
  • a large amount of vitamin D, because in winter its synthesis practically stops, and there is not enough sunlight.
