My name is Julia, I live in g. Sevastopol. I want to share a story about my best work. Time passes, I have already changed several jobs, received a higher education, but my opinion has not changed. Working as a waitress in a cafe in a water park was the most fun. How much experience, memories, acquaintances, skills she took from there! And I'll tell you about the most important gift at the end.
How did it all start?
I was finishing my third year at the university and decided to earn extra money in the summer. Aquapark "Zurbagan" invited young people to seasonal work in a cafe. The experience was not important, which suited me. An interview date was set by phone. How worried when I walked for the first time! I didn’t know what to say or what to do either. So many guys came, but it seemed like I was the only newcomer. The water park administrator told me that the main thing in a waiter's job is to smile all the time. It all started with a smile.
It's cool because it will never happen again
First, the catering staff was given the task to prepare refrigerators, kitchen equipment, dishes, furniture for the opening. This stuff lay in warehouses for 8 months and was difficult to launder. During those few days, I gained fragmentary knowledge about the procedure for serving, communicating with guests, how to carry a tray on one hand, not annoy the cooks, etc. I learned words like:
- Keeper - a computer with a special program into which you drive the order.
- Meeting - a leaf with an order, which comes out in the kitchen and / or bar when you bring it into the keeper.
- Zapara - this is when a million encounters with which the kitchen does not cope on time, and waiters justify themselves in front of the guests.
- Fat table - big order.
- Beachpacket - ordering with the cheapest dishes from the menu, etc.
I remember my first table. The guests ordered pizza and juice. My hands were trembling, my face was all red. Everything worked out as it should, they also left a tip. And in less than a month, she herself taught the new children how to work.
The atmosphere of relaxation and relaxation in the water park influenced the staff as well. Splashing water, loud music, screaming, laughter, running around. Nobody wants perfect service. And who will observe etiquette if people are sitting at the table only in shorts and panama hats? In such conditions, I worked for 3.5 months. I fondly remember how I ate ice cream, hiding under the Christmas tree, washed the dish with dish soap, carried three plates of food in one hand, ate cheese in the kitchen, tried tequila with the bartender... It was also hard to physically endure an 8 hour working day on my feet and in the heat.
There are several cafes and bars in the water park, so in the morning the waiters were assigned to their places. The best place was at the bar: it's cool there and you don't have to walk all over the area offering guests a menu. It was almost necessary to fight for the bar. There were only three girls in the men's team, but no one gave way. But what a taste of victory, when you stand under the canopy of a bar (no one was allowed to sit) and look down at your colleagues who were unlucky today!
We joked and supported each other. They laughed a lot at the guests and ourselves. One of the waiters said that these feelings will not be repeated, because the summer season will end and we will no longer get together. I think, knowing this, everyone was as open as possible and worked in a thrill. But I still took something from this job. That summer at the water park I met a nice chef who became my husband.
Catering work is a good life experience.
Working as a waitress, I learned to understand people better, got rid of complexes and unnecessary worries, became stronger physically and mentally. I am grateful to the water park for happy memories.
