Almonds are a popular ingredient in many pastries. But in most recipes, peeled nuts are used, that is, without the top brown rind. Of course, you can find a lot of information about the benefits of this almond peel, but believe me, if you do not remove it first, the taste of the cake or pastry will definitely be spoiled.
In addition to the fact that it gives bitterness, it is also capable of dyeing the finished product brown. Therefore, it is customary to prepare desserts with peeled almonds.
But not everyone knows how to do this. After all, the peel fits the nut so tightly that it seems simply impossible to remove it. Once upon a time, I also thought so about almonds and ignored recipes with its use.
Not so long ago, I learned a great way to peel almonds quickly and easily. Step by step instructions will help you with this:
- Take a saucepan or stewpan and fill it with water.
- Place the container on fire and bring the water to a boil.
- In the meantime, prepare the required amount of almonds. Despite the fact that we will cook it, the nuts must be thoroughly rinsed under running water.
- When the water boils, add almonds to it and reduce heat to low.
- Boil the nuts for five minutes. As you cook, you will see that the skin on the almonds will swell and loose.
- Then remove the pan from the heat and drain the water. I recommend using a colander for this.
- To cool the almonds faster after cooking, I rinse them under cold running water.
- Now you can start peeling the almonds. It will be so easy that you might even be surprised at the simplicity of the process. It is enough to press your finger on the kernel of the nut, as it immediately "jumps out" of its shell.
After such cleaning, almonds cannot be left wet for a long time. They must be dried immediately in the oven at 100 ° C for 10 minutes.
Therefore, take a baking sheet, line it with parchment paper and lay out all the prepared almonds in one layer. Watch the drying time carefully, otherwise the nuts may brown and become bitter.
Now you have ready-made peeled almonds that you can further use to decorate any pastry.
You can store such nuts for about a year in a glass container with a lid in a kitchen cabinet. I hope that now peeling almonds will not cause you any difficulties and you can repeat it without any problems at any time.
