Initially, the famous Chile con carne received the name "tex-mex" in honor of the Texas-Mexican railway, through which emigrants arrived from Mexico to America. For a long time, Americans themselves mistook the Texas invention for a traditional Mexican dish.
In each region of Chile, con carne is cooked differently. Therefore, there is no answer to the question - which recipe is correct.
Chili with meat is quite simple to cook. Most often, beef is used for its preparation, finely chopped or in the form of minced meat. Hot peppers and spices remain the main seasoning for the dish.
Today I will make my own version of Chili con carne with beans. I'll serve it with corn nachos.
Ingredients:
- Ground beef - 500 grams
- Onions - 1 pc.
- Garlic - 3 cloves
- Hot pepper - 0.5 pcs.
- Chili flakes - 1 tsp
- Cumin - 1 tsp
- Salt - 1 tsp
- Sun-dried tomatoes - 100 grams
- Tomatoes in their own juice - 600 grams
- Canned beans - 250 grams
- Vegetable oil - 3 tbsp.
- Cinnamon - 1 stick
I prepare the necessary products. I use minced meat with a fat-to-meat ratio of 80/20. If you take dry beans, they should first be soaked overnight and then boiled until tender.
Peel and chop the onion and garlic in a food processor.
Heat olive oil in a frying pan and sauté the onion and garlic until transparent. I add chili flakes, salt and ground cumin.
I put the minced meat in a pan with vegetables, stir and fry for another 10 minutes over medium heat.
In a food processor I grind sun-dried tomatoes with peeled hot peppers.
I shift the chopped mixture to the minced meat.
There I also add chopped canned tomatoes in their own juice, a glass of water and a cinnamon stick. I cover the pan with a lid, reduce the heat and simmer the chili for 1.5 hours.
When most of the moisture has evaporated, add the canned beans. I first drain the liquid from it and rinse it under running water.
Let the chili sit on the fire for another 30 minutes.
Serving Chili con carne with crispy corn nachos. Optionally, you can boil rice or wrap chili in tortilla cakes.
Additionally, you can serve the dish with grated cheddar cheese or sour cream.
