Alcohol is dangerous at any age. But people who are already 40 or more years old should be very careful with their bodies: over the years our body “wears out”, alcohol-containing products are no longer processed so quickly. As a result, many systems and organs are affected.
British doctors spoke in detail about this, who conducted a lot of research on this topic.
Brain
Alcohol enters the brain, acting as a depressant, although at the very beginning it may seem that, and vice versa, it is fun and uplifting. Professor Wallace, who did the research, says that most people drink when they are excited. and agitated, and alcohol, getting into the body, has a depressing effect on self-control and the ability to plan. Over the years, if you don't stop drinking, this can lead to anxiety and depression.
Another scientist, Tony Routh, who has been practicing medicine for many years, often sees people in their 50s and 60s with severe brain damage caused by alcohol.
He always tells patients that the brain suffers faster than other organs: before it is discovered cirrhosis, a person already has depression, problems with impulsivity, with making difficult decisions.
But the good news is that the damage we do to the brain from alcoholic beverages can be repaired by not drinking strong drinks for six months.
Leather
According to Prof. Nick Lau, who is a practicing dermatologist, regular consumption of alcoholic drinks leads to the development of diseases such as rosacea, chronic redness of the skin due to the expansion of blood vessels. You can get rid of such a disease surgically, but only at the initial stage.
In addition, drinking alcohol often leads to acne, as people with alcohol dependence have increased anxiety, which activates the production of androgens and leads to the appearance acne.
Heart
This is another organ that suffers from alcohol. People who drink regularly are prone to sudden strokes. Alcohol raises blood pressure, in addition, regular alcohol consumption slows down blood flow, which leads to heart failure.
Liver
In the mid-seventies, the number of people with liver disease in the UK increased dramatically - by almost 400%. The risk group included not only chronic alcoholics, but also people over the age of 40 who like to have a few glasses of wine or beer in the evenings.
As one of the hepatologists explained, the disease begins to develop with fatty liver. But if a person does not stop drinking, then between 40 and 50 years of age, inflammatory processes lead to scarring of the organ. The liver is deformed in about one in five people, which leads to cirrhosis and other complex ailments.
Scientists recommend giving the liver a "rest" for at least three days in a row every week.
Excess weight
Alcoholic drinks raise insulin levels, which leads to an increase in the amount of fat in the liver. So, the average calorie content of alcoholic beverages is about 700 Kcal per 100 ml. The body, receiving such a "dose", does not have time to digest all the calories, and most of them are stored as fat.
In addition, alcohol suppresses the hormone leptin, which controls our appetite. And that is why people eat so much during feasts - they do not have a sense of satiety.
In addition, alcohol is a source of sugar, it increases insulin, increases obesity. At the very beginning, our body makes fatty deposits around the liver, and then around the waist, which causes a "beer belly" and other problems.
Fertility
Not so long ago, a study was conducted in Denmark, in which more than a thousand couples took part. At the same time, they stopped using contraceptives in order for the woman to become pregnant.
The results showed that those couples who did not drink alcohol became parents faster than those who drank on a regular basis.
In addition, excessive alcohol consumption in men leads to a decrease in testosterone levels, sperm quality. Especially at this point it is worth paying attention to those who have already turned 40 or more years old - the quality of their sperm even without alcohol is no longer as high in quality as that of young people.
