Spices not only improve the taste of food! Many of them are tools for rejuvenation and fight against various diseases. By adding them to soups or salads, you can avoid many health problems without resorting to medications.

Chilli

The main reason for this benefit is the presence of capsaicin in the composition. This substance has anti-inflammatory properties, acts as an antioxidant: it weakens the action of free radicals, so that they do not damage healthy cells.

Also, this spice helps to protect against diseases that arise as a result of inflammatory processes occurring in the body: arthritis, dementia, and oncological diseases. Its regular use will improve memory. But also adding pepper to dishes will allow you to add less salt, which means that the risk of vascular, heart, and joint diseases is reduced.

Turmeric

This is one of the most famous healthy spices. Its main substance, curcumin, which belongs to the group of carotenoids, has a pronounced antioxidant activity, suppressing the action of free radicals. But curcumin is also a powerful antiseptic that inhibits the growth of microorganisms.

It is believed that curcumin inhibits the growth of tumor cells, however, this has been proven exclusively in laboratory conditions.

However, such conclusions indicate the need for further research in this area. India was chosen as a "field for experiments", because here turmeric is added to almost all dishes. Perhaps that is why this country has one of the lowest disease rates for cancer and senile dementia.

Ginger

Many people know ginger as a remedy for flu or colds. But few people know about its other equally useful properties. So, for example, the main active ingredient of gingerol is a substance that has an anti-inflammatory effect, "warms up" the body.

Gingerol also:

  • starts the metabolism, which begins to slow down with age, which will avoid the accumulation of fat;
  • fights inflammation, especially in the joints, gastrointestinal tract, which helps reduce the risk of arthritis.

In addition, many scientists believe that ginger can prolong life due to its antioxidant effect.

How not to overdo it with spices?

But, like any product, spices must be consumed wisely, otherwise their effect may be negative. For example, turmeric, when consumed on a regular basis, weakens or enhances certain medications.

But black pepper should be used with caution in case of gastritis, any other stomach problems. And even perfectly healthy people should be careful, trying not to exceed the norm of 6 grains (about 1/4 tsp. l. ground product) at a time. Otherwise, there is a high probability of simply burning the mucous membrane.

It's best not to overdo it with other hot spices, like garlic. It contains a lot of sulfur, the use of which can cause swelling, strong gas formation.

Cloves, which are high in antioxidants, should not be given:

  • children under 2 years old;
  • hypertensive patients;
  • those who suffer from ulcers.
