I never thought about making money on my hobby. Several years ago I got carried away with canning vegetables. The hobby has grown to such an "industrial" scale that my family simply ceased to cope with so many cucumbers and tomatoes. By the way, the matter was not limited to them. A lot of recipes have been tried. In the end, I decided on a few that work best for me.
"The publication"
At first, I had to share - from the heart, without "back" thoughts, with relatives, relatives, friends. But already quickly my delicious jars left not only my home. Real orders have arisen. They asked to "twist" just those people with whom I did not even know. And here the most important question arose, which these potential customers asked: "How much does it cost?"
At first, this is the first thing that puzzled me. Buying in bulk quantities of cucumbers, tomatoes and other vegetables, I did not even think about the cost of a can of eggplant or watermelons.
Let's sit and count
The prices that I cite, of course, will differ up or down, depending on the region of Russia. I live in Rostov-on-Don - a fertile land, where there is no "stress" with vegetables in the season, and for 100-200 rubles you can load the trunk of a car.
So, I want to count on the example of one three-liter (my standard size) cans of tomatoes:
- tomatoes (depending on the size, a kilogram and a half) - 40 rubles;
- A “set” of herbs and spices (celery, dill, garlic, peppercorns) - about 20 rubles;
- three-liter jar plus a lid - 30 rubles.
It is much more difficult to calculate the costs of transportation, gas, water and electricity. I do not even take into account sugar and salt, as well as vodka (yes, in my recipe for tomatoes there are always 20 grams of vodka).
How much do your own pens cost?
In the previous paragraph, I wrote "much harder." I was mistaken. The most difficult thing is to calculate your own labor costs. Ingredients, consumables are one thing.
But how much is my own labor worth? After all, all vegetables must be washed and peeled before cooking, sterilized cans, "pray" so that they do not explode on the first day.
In general, on average, a can of tomatoes cost my customers an average of one hundred rubles, cucumbers, watermelons, about the same amount.
Expensive, do you think? Yes, of course, if you compare with the same jars in supermarkets. But consider manual labor in the absence of a mechanized one, perfectly selected vegetables and - of course - taste! No preservatives or colorants. By the way, on purified water (I didn't even take it into account).
So far I have no plans to enter the “big market”. Business very much depends on the season, buying "plastic" bell peppers in a supermarket in winter won't even shake my hand. There are enough orders from July to September inclusive. But as an additional income - pretty decent! Moreover, the process itself gives me great pleasure.
