How nice it is to sit down your homemade, tasty, aromatic tomato in winter. I always harvest tomatoes this way for the winter. Not less than 10 kilograms. This is very convenient and certainly does not compare in taste with a winter tomato from the store.
I recommend that you try to prepare at least one kilogram of tomatoes this way. You will appreciate and I am sure you will prepare much more next winter.
I have prepared a short video recipe on how to save tomatoes in winter:
Step-by-step recipe with a photo of harvesting tomatoes for the winter:
The tomatoes should be washed well and dried with a towel.
I put it in a tight food bag, tie it up. No air needs to be removed.
You can directly apply a whole package, or you can put several pieces at a time. As it is convenient for anyone.
And I'm putting the tomatoes in the freezer! Yes, yes, I freeze them, straight whole, I don't cut anything.
Here is a whole box I allocate for tomatoes every year!
In winter I add tomatoes to borscht, to scrambled eggs, stewed vegetables, I make gazpacho, various sauces, ketchups, to pizza (cut into thin rings) and believe me the taste is amazing.
I cut small tomatoes (cherry) in half and into a salad, add Provencal or Italian herbs and eat with pleasure :)
How to use frozen tomatoes?
I take out the amount of tomatoes I need. They do not stick to each other, which is very convenient.
I dip the tomato into warm water, you can open the hot tap water and put the tomato under the water for literally 5 seconds. The peel is removed in a second! After defrosting, the tomato does not lose its color, it remains the same saturated.
Then I cut it as I need (such tomatoes are very easy to cut) and use it for cooking.
I am sure you will appreciate this method of harvesting tomatoes. Eat your own homemade tomatoes in winter!
