My herring, I cut off the head and remove all the insides. I cut off the tail. Then there are two options - you can salt it whole or chop it. I cut it in half.
I put it in a suitable container. It is convenient to use a regular glass jar (2 or 3 liters). I took a plastic container. I spread the herring in it.
Black pepper (peas) 8-10 pcs. crush a little in a mortar and add to the herring. There are also 2-3 bay leaves.
Now 3.5 tbsp. salt, 1 tbsp. sugar and pour it all with one liter of water.
Cover and shake well. Convenient if it is a bank. And that's it! I put it in the refrigerator. You can already taste this herring in 4-5 hours. But I usually leave it for a day. Well, the herring is very tasty! And the cooking method is the simplest. In a day:
I keep herring in this brine for 4-5 days, no more. If it does, I take it out of the brine, cut it into pieces, put it in a suitable container, sprinkle with onions, sprinkle with oil and lemon juice (or vinegar). So the herring can be stored for another week in the refrigerator.
I use this herring for salads. And just like that, with potatoes, it's very, very tasty!
