Already all my friends cook cabbage this way. Very tasty and easy to prepare!
My boys love it when cabbage is "not just cabbage", but with something meaty. Therefore, today I will add meatballs to the cabbage. But you can also cook a lean version of this dish!
How I cook:
I cut the cabbage into thin strips, add the chopped onion and carrots grated on a coarse grater. Here is also salt to taste, a pinch of sugar and spices (sugar can of course be excluded).
I knead the vegetables well with my hands, add a little oil and tomato paste.
Now I take a regular glass jar (3 l). The bank should be clean, dry and free from defects. In no case should there be chips or cracks in it! It is very important!
I put some cabbage on the bottom. Then meatballs. Then again cabbage, bay leaves, etc.
You can cook such cabbage simply with pieces of meat (pre-pickled in spices). Or you can add, for example, mushrooms, beans or prunes. Or you can add nothing - just cook cabbage!
How I cooked meatballs for this dish:
Boiled a glass of rice in advance until half cooked. I add minced meat, black pepper, salt to taste and an egg to the rice.
I knead well and form balls with wet hands.
I lightly fry the meatballs in a little vegetable oil. Quite slightly. It is necessary for a light crust to form, otherwise they will fall apart.
I add about 50 ml of water to the jar (since the rice in the meatballs is slightly undercooked). If I cook with or without meat, I don't add water.
I make a foil lid and put the jar in a cold oven. Into the cold! And only then I turn it on!
I set the time to 80-90 minutes and the temperature to 180 degrees. If your oven heats up very quickly, then at first (10 minutes) it is better to set 120 degrees, and then increase the temperature to 180.
After the dish is cooked, do not open the oven for at least 20 minutes! If you open it right away, the bank may burst. You can also not put a hot jar on a wet or too cold surface (although, I think, this is understandable 😊)
