Dessert or vivacity with foam - let's talk about coffee! I can talk about him for hours or write in huge tolmuds. This is because coffee is in my blood or coffee instead of blood.

This is about Turkish coffee or oriental. And our story will be about another drink, but it also has to do with coffee.

So, latte macchiato.

Latte macchiato - why Italians don't like it and don't recognize it

Who is the author?

For centuries, mankind has actively used coffee beans to enjoy the invigorating brown slurry. But we did not immediately dare to diversify this miracle.

Around the middle of the 19th century in England (yes, you won't believe it!), Everything Italian becomes extremely fashionable. And so they tasted the coffee as crowds of English tourists rushed to the Apennine Peninsula.

But not everything then was to the liking of the prim British. So strong Italian cappuccino has become a real disgusting for many. And so that the guests of taverns and coffee houses did not spit a wonderful drink on the floor of the institution, the cunning innkeepers began to pour milk into it, as the British generously pour it into their tea.

A strange and even funny story, but this is how latte coffee was invented. But at that time no one even thought about latte macchiato or imagined it. Until the first half of the 20th century.

It is still not clear who exactly thought of pouring not milk into coffee during the preparation of a latte, but, on the contrary, add coffee to hot milk.

However, we can say with one hundred percent certainty that that inventor-barista lived already in the days of powerful coffee machines and cappuccinatore machines. Since without these modern devices, he would not have succeeded.

The name "latte macchiato" thundered in 1989, after this coffee drink was included in the menu of the international coffee chain Starbucks. The cunning chefs of that establishment claimed that they were preparing the drink according to a traditional Italian recipe.

But the Italians themselves refuse it and prefer cappuccino. So latte macchiato is already an American-European invention.

Latte macchiato was then popular on the Starbucks menu for a short time, since by the end of the 20th century it suddenly disappeared from it. And only in 2016, Starbucks decided to revive its old recipe, but everyone had already forgotten about it, so marketers even had to explain to the public how the latte macchiato differs from the classic latte.

This is really very hard to believe, because now the cocktail is at the height of fashion all over the world.

Interesting about latte macchiato

Any inexpensive blend of several varieties of arabica, Viennese or full roast is used for this drink. The grinding of beans can be completely different, because it depends on the method of preparation of the coffee base.

The coffee base is understood as strong black coffee, which is brewed in different ways: in a Turk, a French press, a geyser or a drip coffee maker.

About milk

For latte macchiato, take ordinary pasteurized milk with a fat content of 3%.

An important point! This drink is not made from skim milk, since the foam from it is weak, and it should be more fluffy than for a latte.

And further! Latte macchiato is a dessert, so it is almost always prepared with sugar or syrup.

Why exactly macchiato?

This drink has two ingredients - milk and coffee. But the final dish consists of three layers that differ in color from each other: milk below, coffee in the middle and on top - white milk froth with a brown speck of coffee (ground cinnamon or cocoa powder).

It is this appearance of the drink that gave it its name. From Italianlatte "Is translated as milk, and"macchiato "- spotted.

Latte macchiato is always served in glassware so that all the layers are visible and so it looks very impressive.
