4 products that only seem cheap, but in fact we pay a lot for them

Admin

How low price products enable manufacturers to make fortunes for us. I figured out how much we overpay.

I recently ran out of baking powder at home unexpectedly and had to go to the nearest store to buy a couple of bags. I paid 28 rubles for 2 packages. It seems to be inexpensive, but later I counted the cost per kilogram and was a little stunned.

Then I thought, there are a lot of such pseudo cheap products. As a pastry chef, I was primarily interested in learning about sweets, so I made a list of 5 products for which we sometimes overpay more than 10 times.

Baking powder

A bag of baking powder weighing 10 grams costs from 10 to 18 rubles. Let's take the average price of 14 rubles, which means a kilogram goes to 1400 rubles.

But if you buy at least a 500 gram pack, then 1 kilogram will cost 400-500 rubles. I usually buy a kilogram package, and it costs me only 250 rubles. This is almost 6 times cheaper than buying in small bags.

Piece sweets

Previously, in stores at the checkout, they often sold candy by the piece. Now this can only be found in roadside shops. But manufacturers went further and began to make individually wrapped sweets and sell them at exorbitant prices.

For example, a 25 gram portion of marmalade at a price of 69 rubles 90 kopecks. Yes, someone will say that this is figured marmalade, very beautifully decorated. But if you look closely, it's just a marmalade in the form of a ball, decorated with sugar details, at a price of 2800 rubles per kilogram.

Topping for desserts

It seems to me that manufacturers adore these sprinkles, as they bring them fabulous profits. The cost of sprinkles is very different, but I will show it using the example of sprinkles that I found in a store near my home.

Such a 170 gram jar of sprinkles costs almost 320 rubles or 1,882 rubles per kilogram. Are you ready to pay for this, considering that such a dressing is mainly sugar, a little flour and dyes? Moreover, such dyes are often used, which (hereinafter I quote) "can have a negative effect on the activity and attention of children."

Coffee on the road

This kind of coffee is a big source of income for all shops in train stations. Moreover, there it costs some kind of cosmic money. In the nearest supermarket, black freeze-dried coffee costs 17 rubles 90 kopecks per 1.8 grams.

Now let me recalculate the price per kilogram, but for now sit down, otherwise you can fall. So, the cost of a kilogram of such coffee is 9944 rubles. Good grain coffee costs 1000-2000 rubles per kilogram, and here freeze-dried coffee costs 10,000.

To be honest, I'm amazed at how expensive food can get when packaged in small containers. Of course, there are situations when it is more convenient to take one serving of coffee and then just throw out the bag. But I'd rather buy a pack of coffee and sort it into portions in advance, than overpay.
